New D-lator build 3 test configurations

Post by erwin_ve »

Hi guys,

I'm in the middle of a D-lator build similar to the one I previously build ( https://tubeamparchive.com/viewtopic.ph ... highlight= )

This time I'm building 3 pieces because I want to test some different coupling caps, the 6PS OD is very hard to get in EU. I want to check some alternatives.
Also the power supply is modified with some slightly lighter filter caps than my previous build.

Coupling caps used in this 3 builds: Orange drop Ps6/ 225P series, Xicon MPP, Cornell Dubilier CDE DME series.

I'll post some pics asap.

Some pictures; layout, drilling, eyelet board was the easy part. Adding waterslide decal to the frontplate was a nightmare. I will never use it again

Very cool! :D

I will be watching this as I intend to build one of these one of these days and want to know the best configuration and parts to use.

So I take it these will be the single tube, Dumbleator I style of loop?

Have you tried the Dumbleator II type?

By having three or four different builds, you will be able to instantly switch between them to hear the differences.

Keep the posts coming! :D

Don't let that smoke out!

Correct, single tube mono version. I didn't try/build the stereo version.
Maybe in the future, it's got different values I saw in the schematics.

Erwin,

I love the newspaper...'Drechtsteden' ... Sigh. I grew up in 'Land van Valk, Dordrecht. :D

Why are you so keen on those caps? The Wima MKS4 series that is readily available in The Netherlands work great. And might be cheaper for you to use as well.

Have fun!

Hi Jelle,

So your also a "schapekop" :D

I already used a Wima cap for my Non-Hrm's od entrance with good result.

Only problem; because of the short leads of the WIMA's, the layout has to be very tight.
I might try it as well because I can't get my hands on a 0,047uF and a 0,1 uF Orange drop PS.
Thnx!

Erwin

With people like you doing this kind of research, there is no excuse for anyone on this forum to have bad tone. I am constantly impressed by the effort forumites like you put into wringing out every once of tone from a circuit, even one as benign as the loop. Let us know how it goes as I am also trying to improve the high end response of my built in d'lator.

Thanks Tonegeek! When I'm done I'll make some audio clips.
