What comes around goes around... I've been building rat bikes and bobbers for just about forever by now it seems. All of a sudden rat bikes are back in style which is fine by me.

The big trap is when you start with a sketch or a picture and it has to be exactly that way. No, it doesn't! The trick is to do what you can and leave the rest up to fate. Go forwards until you can go no further then sleep on it. The right part or the right material that can be adapted into the right part will show up in due time. -IF- your mind is set that something has to look a particular way your vision is mis-adjusted to the point where the solution can dance right past your face like a chorus line of Rockettes and you won't see it. Been there, done that!

Oh Man that's a nice water boxer! 8) I own a 64 Notchback, a 65 Notchback, a 78 Bus, 77 Beetle that now has a 36 Ford front end kit and a Panel Truck kit installed and my 57 Porsche. I just sold my 71 Ghia Cabrio last year. Never was a big Grateful Dead fan but here is a pic of my dead head mobile. The panel truck has been a 6 year project.

Small world. I have (all Bugs unless noted) two '56s one's a ragtop, a '60, two '62s, a '64, two '65s, a '65 Kombi, a '66, a '68, a '69 and a '69 'vert, a '70 'vert, a '71 and a '71 'vert, a '73 Square, two '74s and probably a few more. Once you get past ten it gets hard to keep track of them all.

Yes it is a small world. Who da thunk we would have 3 VW nuts who also enjoy building amps. Fun to drive is an under statement. 8) I built the bus for my son for a high school graduation present back in 1993. I had so much fun restoring that old Bus that I just couldn't stop  In it's hay day we had a huge sound system with a wall of 8 8s, 2 6.5s and a 5 1/4 in each door, center channel, dash mounted dual 31 band EQ and and tweeters with about 1000 watts of power in the old bus. The amps were located in the back in a remote controlled motorized drawer. He won a lot of sound challenges with the old bus but I don't remember the Greatful Dead ever playing on the stereo. Looking back I should have had a bank of about 32 6550s  I got it back a few years later and it is now mine, less the sound system.

well i can tell she's been well looked after...clean as a wissel

You seem to have lots of space... I like that!!

Plan to move to the country full time in 5-7 years when my daugther goes to College and my wife retires.

Not crazy about city life here...no garage...no place to do some manual labor...stuck...

Can't wait to have my own space when i move...with all my tools...something to look for

When the kids grew up and moved out I was left with a pool in the back yard. I took the pool out and built me a garage so I know where you are coming from. I now wish I had built the garage bigger  A man can never have a big enough garage. I did have enough fore thought to build it with 10ft ceilings and a barn style roof with a huge storage room above. Now I'm looking into getting one of those lifts so I can store my Porsche on the lift in the winter and park another car under it. I picked up an old air conditioner that I will intall this spring so I can just live out there all summer

I've been jonesen' for a classic beatle, a 356, old 911 or something along those lines. My wife has a affliction to cars though. I sold off all my hotrods long ago, but I'm looking to replace my well worn A4 Avant for a new TDI 2009 A4 Avant so I make my own fuel!!! I don't think a Rabbit Diesel is going to fit my bill

Totally cool sighting:

I saw an R8 heading south on ECR Saturday afternoon!! That was cool as all get out. Now I just gotta convince the Mrs. that R8 TDI IS worth the cash.

Go with the classic Beetle. My advice would be to track down a '61-'63 that's been lovingly restored. There are other great years notably '67. You can buy a really good Beetle for what it costs to rebuild the engine in a 356. If you want a premium piece hold out for a ragtop (last available in '63), that's the canvas sunroof.

If you have Porsche envy the VW drums can be drilled for Fuchs alloys or bolt up a set of BRM replicas.

There's parts interchange between the pre-'67 Porches and pre-'65 Bugs. The Porsche engine and transmission can be retro fitted to the VW but with the tremendous aftermarket supply of low cost high performance VW parts I can't imagine why you'd want to.

I just sold my 2.3 liter big bore stroker motor. 165 streetable horsepower doesn't sound like much, in a Bug it rivals a 911 for acceleration. A 911 is a genuine sports car so it has sports car handling. It also has a sports car price tag and sports car insurance.

I can't imagine a woman who doesn't like old Beetles. I think your biggest challenge will be getting the keys back from her if you buy one.

I never had a Transporter. I've had most everything else though, including a '55 back in HS. It had the mechanical turn signals thas stuck out from the door pillar.

I wouldn't mind a nice bus like the Red one, but only as a second ride.
