Now my other friend that had a '66 Chevelle with a '71 402 (396 bored .030" over) was a real torque machine.
That car always impressed people.
My first real hot rod was a 69 Firebird. I took out the 6cyl OHC 4.2L and put in, yep, you guessed it...a 402 BB from a 1970 SS Camaro.
10.75 : 1 compression, 375 horse from the factory.
Got the heads shaved, ported/flowed, ports matched to the Edelbrock intake, steel crank, Holley 750 double pumper, stock cam with those mods put out 445 HP on the dyno when done. Later I put in a real cam with new lifters and started breaking rocker arms. Had to upgrade all of those to keep it solid.
I was outrun on a street race, once, by a 68 Camaro with a bored over 35o with nitrous. He won by a 1/2 length. I just ran pump gas, headers, dual exhaust.
My g/f drove it one night, came back really quick...with the oil light on. Wish she had stopped immediately, but she drove a 1/2 mile or more. Sigh.
That 402 in the YT video looks exactly like mine did. Took me all the way back to 1978.
Thanks for the memories, Tom!
