Please, no no no no nooooooooo.............

OK maybe I'm behind the times, with a 15 year old computer and dialup, but now hear this: sites with scripts just stop me dead in the water and I haaaaate that! Yes I have script-blocker but that's no help. What should take 10 seconds takes 45 minutes to accomplish when I have to disable the script blocker. At one time I could pay my phone bill in a minute: write a check, stamp the envelope, done. Now they want me to pay online and it takes nearly an hour. Bo-o-o-o-o-ogus! Damn' if I'm gonna buy a new computer and go hi-speed just to satisfy the companies that want me to pay bills online as well as communicate commiserate & generally hang around on a useful and entertaining site like TAG. There's upsize, downsize, but the best is rightsize, and as far as I'm concerned TAG is rightsized right now. Let's not fancy it up unnecessarily. I don't need to see any cute cartoons or anything like that. Phooey on scripts.

What COULD be done to "clean up" the members list - send a polite email to those who haven't participated the longest. RSVP ASAP or get snipped off the member's list. (I'll call that the Bobbitt plan.) Then work on more recent non participants. Maybe require at least one post per year to stay "active."

FWIW I was a lurker for about a year or two until I joined up proper-like. Even without being able to view photos & schematics it was still educational, thought provoking and entertaining (that's you Miles! and cbass too!). Gently encourage participation, that's what I'm getting at.

Leo, its not that kind of scripting. The database admin would cut ,edit and paste all the command lines for purging the memberlist into program like notepad++, creating a "script". With a couple of keystrokes/mouseclicks you could clean up the database by executing the script.

Hey, I'm a member in good standing over there.

Have been for years.

Never posted, though.

We have an inside guy..

I didn't realize the staff over there was here. I think I just threw up in my mouth a whole lot. Too bad.

Then lead the paranoid parade. Carry the banner that says "someone is following me." (I'm tired of doing it, please take over!)

OK, I just went through 100 pages of the memberlist.

Up to that point there are 5,000 members with zero (0) posts and there are probably much more, but I got tired of punching keys. :D

ok, so why is it such a big deal if a member hasn't posted? this is my first post here, i joined this forum to learn more about tube amps. there's a whole host of knowledge here, the very place for someone like me to hang out. i log in and try to learn everyday. i find this place highly rewarding, and when i have something to share, i'll share it here, can't see the point of deleting a member just cos they haven't posted. but anyway hi to all, maybe i'm missing something, not well versed in how forums work.

Well, you just posted so it's no big deal.:D

I like to see new members introduce themselves in their first post.
We have members from all over the world.
It's interesting to read and see what other tube amp lovers are doing elsewhere in the world.

Nice to have people put their location in their profile so if we help them we know
where they are to suggest parts sources.

We're talking about people that registered 7 or 8 years ago and have zero posts.
And we should also see

This forum can be a bit intimidating because of the technically skilled members here.
I think I read posts and learned for about six months before I dared to post.

The other problem we have had in the past was spambots invading the forum.
Or trolls just trying to disrupt the forum.

Or as mentioned, people that join and their first post is to sell something in the For Sale section.
I don't think that is very polite or good manners at all.

Great group of guys and gals here and we always welcome new members if they introduce themselves.

thanks tom. i like what you said about 'daring to post' that's a problem i've had, a bit intimidated by lots of knowledgeable people, like you said.
i'm a guitar player, and love tube amps, my hope, is to build a 102 style amp. i've built small and simple stuff, the complexity of a 'd style amp makes me want to get building.
thanks for the reply.

(In 2000 year old man Mel Brooks accent): There's ladies here ?!?

Well that's good! And why not. Just seems to be very rare. Maybe I'm unaware.

And also good to hear from gz34 from Old Blighty.
