Vintage MXR Micro Amp ATTACKED by Disintegrating Gray Foam!!

Hi. Any solutions to cleaning out this gray foam crud?

My two MXR Micro Amps are from approximately 1981.
Each Micro Amp has both the 9-Volt battery compartment
and the external side-port for an external power adapter
(one generation after the "battery-only" MXR Micro Amps).

Both Micro Amps work great! Just want to get rid
of the gray foam crud before anything happens.


What do you do?

***Heard this happens to all products with foam padding.

All I know is to yank the foam early and often. I've had some disintegrations in a rack compressor and an EV mic, too. The downside on the mic was needing to put a new sleeve in and wonder if I'll be any better off on that in 25 years.

Happy to hear any cleanup tips.

That stuff has turned to glue in several of my items...cassettes, speakers, etc.

I repaired two old Moog synths a few years ago. They were from the early seventies. I didn't make near enough on that job to clean up the mess that resulted. I still have some of it in my carpet. That foam turned into black glue with the slightest touch. That's why i refuse to work on keyboards anymore.

Crap. I'm looking at a 1978 Roland 84-Keyboard
that I pulled out of storage since 1982.
Am praying it will play. Will let you know.

By the way. I cleaned out the two MXR Micro Amps
of the glue-like gray foam. I discovered EVERYONE
has the same issue. What a crappy mess that stuff is.

Have them both on EBay with plenty of before/after photos,
lots of pictures and lots of page views. Apparently my
1981 MXR Micro Amp is pretty rare? Who woulda thunk?

Sold my Boss DM-2 Analog Delay this morning for $415!!!
