two samples of my clone

Post by mat »

Which one You prefer (tone vise not playing  ) ?

First with PAB then no PAB but OD channel. First bridge + neck PU, then bridge PU only.

First with PAB then no PAB but OD channel. Bridge + neck PU, neck then bridge PU only. Also guitar volume changes.

No prosessing of the clips. Reverb (one tube) is as on Normsters layout. Sorry for the clipping on several places.

cheers,

Very nice tone! Loved the clean on the first clip and the way it has some edge.
OD is amazing. Can't tell which I prefer...

It's a non-HRM, right? Details on speakers, guitar?

Congratulations.

All the best.

Matt.... man, both tones settings are very workable. For my taste though the OD could be cranked a touch more to achieve a more "singing" note bloom. But what the hay...... that's personal preference, otherwise she sounds sweet! Nice job. No processing required.... just that touch of "verb" = perfect!

Clips sound good - making the assumption this is nonHRM I have a small suggestion, in the first clip you can hear a little buzzy distortion when low notes are played that you may not like - try putting the OD entrance mod from the HiGain schematics using the 10M to ground and a .01 cap before the resister feeding the OD1 trimpot. This won't change the sound much but should alleviate some of the lownote buzziness. Sorry if this seems too "nitpicky" The amp sounds really good.

Sweet. I like the general charactor of the tone, but to my ears the OD is just a tad muddy compared to the clean. I'd up the bright cap on the master volume a step, I.E. if you have a 22pF in there go to a 39pF etc. Again, that's my ears, it's yours that counts.

Great playing too.

Sweet sounding amp! I thought the second clip sounded a touch sweeter, but the difference was too subtle to really call it a preference.

Signal chain: My DIY Julia-guitar (http://koti.welho.com/mtiilama/DIY%20Guitars.htm) with two humbuckers (Schaller+DiMarzio) into nonHRMclone (Normsters Bassman layout) into 2 x 12'' redwhiteandblues (only one speaker connected). One cheap AudioTechnica on one channel and one DIY mic on the other channel into really cheap micpre into Audiophile2496 soundcard.

First clip is ROCK on -- DEEP on -- normal input.

The other clip is JAZZ on -- DEEP on -- FET input

This seems crazy but I prefer the latter setting because of the much more clearer lower strings.

The input volume was dimed 8) tone settings were treble 12'o clock middle 12'o clock bass 9'o clock. Drive was 9'o clock and drive volume was dimed (if that means it is full  ). Presence was 11'o clock and reverb was full. No middle boost. Feedback loop was on 44M setting.

I will try the suggestions here to get the ROCK position to have more clearer lower strings.

strat57: I played the amp at home so the master volume was at 8'o clock. The amp betters and betters when pushing it a little harder and then gives more singing tone 8)

heistl: You are absolutely right. That is why I made these clips. I don't like at all the fizzy low notes. I'll try Your suggestion, Thanks !

Bob I: I'll check the cap on the master. You are right also. The first clip is muddier than the second (jazz+fet).

What I would like to know is what actually the RJ switch leaves out of the circuit when at Jazz-position ? On normal input I dont like the Jazz position at all.

Normster: Ok You got it too :D

Thanks for Your input everyone :D

I'm confused. If the input volume is dimed (on full)...how are you getting such clean tones out of the amps? My amp starts to turn pretty mean with input volume above 2 o'clock.

Great tone and smooth playing! I'd say your amp sounds VERY close to the best of the d-clones that have posted clips here. The suggestions you've been given will probably put it "over the top".

I dont know why that is  It just does not get too distorted when dimed :?:

Pre Amp Boost
it's the disconnect of the tone stack (the switch/relay that disconnects one side of the treble pot, among other things. see schems for details) It defeats the tone controls and boosts the signal in the early stage
