Meet Meredith..

Post by JamesHealey »

Here is my latest piece of work.. a Liverpool clone using a Pacific OT 6k6.

2n2 + 2n2 Ceramic / 68k RC Filter

1k5 Grid stopper on V2

This is how I believe the later Liverpools were done.

Hey James,

Nice work! Sounds pretty killer. For the distortion I think I can hear a bit of Brian May in there (We Are The Champions). It's really got nice harmonics. What speaker and cab did you use for the recording?

Could you elaborate on choice for the R/C filter a bit?

The reason for my RC filter choice was this letter from Ken to Glen, describing a tweak for the Liverpool amp that he states he does to all the new Liverpool amps.

Cheap Marshall 1x10 speaker cab with a G10L-35 Celestion

Ideal for home use to keep the volume down I believe these are only like 93dB sensitivity also using an attenuator I made which is what causes the tad strangeness to the bottom end of the tone, that disappears when you use the amp unattenuated but thats simply too loud for Sunday morning around here.

Excellent James, thanks. Ah, ok, I have seen paralleled caps of dissimilar dielectrics on Wreck amps before: it's cool to see the letter where that inspiration came from. Interesting about the added grid stopper; but that's just good business.

Dave

Congrats James - nice build.
Was she difficult to get under control ? How's the noise floor ?
I think I'll add the second 0.002 cap.
Have fun with her !

Hi Bob, not really moving the treble pot wire a bit, shortening the presence and getting the grid wires to the power tubes down to the deck.

and it was perfectly stable.

There's a tad more hum than I'd like but the hum in the recording is from my monitor and pickups not the amp, at gig levels nobody would notice the hum.
