EVM 12L or SRO? Which is it?

Post by wescaster »

I have an older EV that I was told was an SRO. It looks more like a 12L to me. Does anyone know how to tell the difference? :?

It was blown when I bought it and I had it reconed by Orange County Speakers. I'm just going to sell it help pay for my new Red Plate amp, but I don't know what to call the thing.

That doesn't look like the SRO's I had in the 70's. They were white and had a smaller diameter but longer magnet. I'd say it's an EVM.

EV Sold many speakers this way. I believe they're OEM models.

It looks like an OEM 12L, the only thing that looks wrong are the speaker connections. Normally EV's have a spring loaded connection and not spade lugs.

It is definately not an SRO.

Interesting the 4 that I have all have the cool string clips. The reissues also have the spring clips.

SPAM Alert ... BTW, if anyone needs any reissue 12L's I can get for a decent price (well better than street price).

FWIW mine has spring clips/button - not an OEM.

This was recently re-coned. There was no solder or scratches on the lugs so I'm assuming the reconer replaced these for some reason.

I've got one that basically looks like that one with SRO on the label. I'll take a pic tonight and post it.

For the record, there was a brief transitional series of EV speakers Called the S.R.O. 12L, a Ceramic version of the SRO that has a white sticker on the back of the magnet that said SRO (I have one if pictures are necessary) this speaker is identical to the later EVM 12L, so the speaker in question could in fact be an SRO-

I have also seen the OEM EVM series speakers with faston connectors as opposed to the spring clips, I have seen 3 different size spring clips as well, and series II labeled speakers with and without the heatsink on the magnet.
