What to build next in the ODS-100 department ???

Post by 67plexi »

What to build next in the ODS-100 department ??? This will be the last ODS build.
So far #124 100 watt modified form, #124 100 watt original form, #183 100 watt modified,
Duane Allman 50 watt original design vintage transformers. ODS Black Flag 100 watt this is one of the best vintage Fane studio 12L in a combo. #4 SSS 100 watt, #5 SSS 150 watt, #7 SSS 150 watt.
The SSS is to dam heavy around 100 pounds to lug around but sounds great with 4 x 12 EV12L
I'm gravitating towards a #102 I have built one in the past but was not happy with the end result
I have the correct transformers for #102 now 690 volt / CT no load PT with a 4 ohm OPT it's huge.
I do this for fun and the SSS builds took the fun out of amp building for me 2400+ hours of study.
sifting through all the disinformation on the SSS 150. I'm not interested in a HRM or a Bluesmaster.
I have vintage Marshall's, Hi-Watts and Park Marshalls to fill that void.
Chime in what to build in the ODS 100 watt ?????

Best regards, Steve.

Did you ever see the thread I posted on how to build this known serial number 100W ODS? I don't know if anyone else that posts here built it. Excitement over 102, 183 & SSS seems to have pushed that thread into obscurity. It is a HRM, but even if you have Marshalls, you might want to check it out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78raAKXpZtI

ic-racer thank you for the reply. I'm not thrilled over #102 I spent one year on a #102 build
I just did not have any love for it so I gutted it. HRM would be a new build for me
I can just build a new preamp board to accommodate Johns HRM board
use the filament supply to power the 5v relays I have a filter board and a regulator board for it.
and use a 7 pin din for the foot switch. From what I gather the HRM is a high plate mid plate.
V-1 220k/150k V-2 180k/120k Is the HRM the combo that Eric Clapton is using now ???
One game changer is my filament supply is only 6 amps that would be cutting it close for EL34's

Steve.
The 'real' amp that mine is based on has a sticker "TF130" on the power transformer. That may or may not have been underpowered for the EL34. I just went ahead and used a Magictone with 5.5A supply and have not had any issues.

This is the dirt cheap build I decided to use parts I had in stock .
Working on the FET. I may order a Marstran JMP-100 C1998 OPT if I don't like the 4 ohm OPT.
I'm going to burn it in with cheap trash Russian EL-34 then install a Quad of NOS GEC KT77

You can say I'm building two amps .At the same time. As far as builds go this is #13 and #14
I have two more builds after this then I'm finished in the amp building department.
I thank TAG for all the vast wealth of information.

Steve. :D

I've always been curious about the 700V plate/350V screen model HAD built with Music Man iron and EL34s.

Years ago someone on TAG described it as having "mids you can stick your head into" and I always remembered that description!

here is a quick clip of my Music Man. Apart from the throaty mids it also has this wooly kind of break up that is pretty cool..
