This is an astonishing remark. I have been playing an Epi Dot into a Ceriatone OTS with the OD channel up high. But I have the neck pickup vol turned way, way down. VERY BAD VERY BAD.
One thing that Shad nailed for sure, is the ability of the amp to still have an almost acoustic tone when overdriven heavily.

And my Verdict??? Shad, THANK you. Shad has totally nailed the incredible tones of #183. Between the three amps, it as actually stupid to try and pick which sounded "better", as it was three of the same thing. However, if I wanted to buy one of these amps in a store, and they were all the same brand and price, and I picked while blindfolded, I would probably walk out with Brads Quinn TKT the way they are set up right now. Since the first time I played it, Brad had the bias dropped way down from 40 to 27, and had Mazda pre amp tubes installed. Now, you no longer have to dial the high end back to match the Dumbles tones. All settings are roughly the same, as they are on my TKT. My amp was the thickest, and had the most bottom end. Brads was a little thinner, but very clear, had slightly less gain, and was clear as a bell. The Dumble was in between, but sounded buzzier, and a bit splatty in the lower end in comparison. Both my amp and the Dumble have GEs in the preamp, and that is where the additional gain is coming from. I tried telefunkens in the Dumble when I owned it, as well as in my TKT yesterday, and found the same things I am now hearing in Brads amp. Lower gain, and thinner but clearer tone. This is all splitting HAIRS of the nth degree. You could adjust the pots on any to make them sound almost equal to the others. If I was forced to pick as is though, I would take Brads TKT first, the Dumble or mine second. This is forced at gun point, because I could not be happier with my amp, and dig the additional thickness over Brads, and less splatty tone than the Dumble. (Am I actually saying some bad things about the Dumble??? Thats how totally AWESOME all 3 of thse amps are!) I can honestly say they are the three best sounding amps for overdriven tones I have ever played. Kudos to the TwoRock artist as well! It was smoother than all three, but a bit darker, and not as 3 D sounding. It is 50 watts though, and again, we are splitting hairs! The TwoRock also has a GREAT built in reverb and good effects loop. KILLER amp!!
In conclusion: There are a lot of supposed Dumble clones out there, but I have yet to hear A/B clips of the actual Dumble next to the clone. Well now you have clips Brad and I have posted, and you have my ears to trust or not. These are virtually 3 of the same amps. Line up 3 brand new mesa Lonestars or Fender Bassmans and you will hear the same slight variations for example. Thats as good as I could possibly have hoped for! Dumble tone? FINALLY nailed to the wall. Secrets gone. No magic. It just takes good ears, and the ability to get the tone you are hearing out of the amp. Easier said than done it seems. Lots of Dumble style flavors out there. This is not Dumble style. This is pure, 100% Dumble tone. You go Shadman!

No. We used all kinds of settings. Brad and I really go for very different types of tones, and all amps excelled in all areas. Brad likes the bright and mid switches on quite a bit, and I very rarely ever use them. He also varys the gain and level controls a LOT, but I usually like them pretty much in the classic "Ford" positions, and vary slightly from there depending on the guitar. The presence is very powerful, and that knob i DO use a lot. I go from 3/4s off to 3/4s on quite a bit depending on the tone I am after. That really rich harmonic tone I dig so much, I usally have the presence up at 2-3 Oclock, and thats BRIGHT! For the Ford thing, its around noon. Going by ear, the presence kind of reminds me of the presence knob on the Bruno UG30, it that it seems to add richness and some gain in the mids as you turn it up. Where do you live? You are welcome to come over and plug in if you are local. I am 20 minutes from the GWB.
EDIT: Want to add one thing. The bright switch is NOT wired upside down. I totally forgot it was a 3 way, and I was seeing the down as on, and the up as off. The up I was using was the middle, not realizing that there was another click up for brighter yet.
One other thing. these amps seem to make ANY guitar sound exceptional. We played all KINDS of guitars through them (And Brad has some of the nicest I have ever heard) and even his Strat which is a hard tail (Maybe thats the key?) sounds fantastic. His P90 Gustavson was WICKED sounding, and his new (used) Collings was stunning! Of course my favorite is his 58 Es335. Just mellow in every area. the RIGHT knd of mellow. After playing that thing, almost every other guitar seems a bit harsh.

Thanks Brad. Correct Structo. I use it almost all the time when I have the right cord. I LOVE it. No Dulator needed. It is not working correctly as my dog ate the power cord, so I use a Boss RV2 most of the time right now. I did use it on the last poli clip with an improper power supply so the reverb is not nearly as clear as usual.
