Yup. Friend once remarked that all this reissue stuff seems like it came from a Star Trek planet where they had an idea of what an original was like from a 1966 Fender brochure or some Beach Boy videos left behind by some rouge human careless with the prime directive, and they built a civilization around duplicating vintage gear. i.e it looks good from 9 light years away but get up close and you're like - what exactly is this crap?
So, I'd sell the DRRI and get a good quality pine cab tolexed right with hide glue, proper quality void free birch baffle. I bet the new ones have that crap 4 ply super cheap crumbly stuff (but can't say for sure on that). And then source the chassis etc from Weber, Watts, Mojo etc. Trannies I'd go w/ Heyboers as they always seem to capture the Fender sound for me, but I haven't tried all, but Classic Tone would keep the price down.
Otherwise if you are going to gut the DRRI I'd definitely keep the iron. If it sounds good there you go. Otherwise it's easy to swap first the OT then the PT later if you find you're is limited by that.
