nice job. I'm getting ready to do this as well...just having a hard time finding somewhere to buy the wood I want. What wood did you use? Also, how did you apply the labeling on the wood on the front under the knobs?

Question...whats the knob on the back of your amp for? Mine doesn't have that...so I was just curious.

Can you post the plans you used for the head cab?

again...nice job.

Very nice!

What is the knob on back?

I like the speaker out on the chassis like that (mine is just on the PCB).

Thanks guys.

The cab is made from baltic birch plywood with anigre flamed veneer. The front is African padauk (3/4" for the top, 1/8" for the faceplate).

I don't have any plans for the cab, just used Dana's numbers but added 1/2" to the height and depth - 7" x 7" x 13-1/2".

The control on the back is for R12. It's a 50k linear pot with a 82k resistor on the wiper. I can adjust it from 82k to 129k. Orginally, I was going to do what kineteks did (plug in resistor header thingy).

Ken, what did you use to label your faceplate?

Dry transfer with a few coats of Deft satin lacquer. I works very well. Here's another example...

Ken-

What are the letters (brand) you use to apply on the faceplate?

Ron,

They are the Datak brand, 12 point I believe. It's hard to find a supplier for these. I bought mine a few years back from partsexpress.com, but they don't carry them anymore.

There are some here http://www.minute-man.com/acatalog/Titl ... ries_.html , but it appears they only have 10 point sizes. Or here, http://www.oselectronics.com/ose_p52.htm (these guys are expensive!).

Well Ken...very nice work on that head cab. Looks great. I'm going to be doing this very soon...but just need to work out how to do the joints. I'm thinking possibly a locking miter joint...but then I have to buy a router and bit...more tools area always cool 8)

I may use these measurements for my cab...I like a larger cab...dunno why exactly...

Years ago I got some of these from my Dad who worked for the telephone company.

They are long gone now but I was wondering how in the world do you get the letters so uniform and level?
Your look very, very nice and that is a great idea to spray clear lacquer over them.

Great job with the mods and the cab. Very clean workmanship with those 45 degree joints. The plywood layers accentuate the visuals very much! Impressive. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Ditdah. I prefer smaller cabs since I don't have alot of room. The dimension ratio of my cabinet is about the same proportions of a real wreck.

Structo, Datak has word sets, not just letters. They have words for audio/video, ham radio, test equipment. Power, treble, bass, mid, input, output, etc.. They also have dial line markings as well.

I've been meaning to email Datak to see if they're still making these. I have a feeling that they are not. When Parts Express had these they were only $3.50 a set!
