Thanks for the real and courteous response and the open mind. That is a redeeming trait and much appreciated.
Maybe I'm too new to the forum and need to get a tougher skin.

All I am saying is that to most people that have never met Mr. Dumble, like myself, it seems far fetched that he would chime in and make it definitive.

The font/lettering does look really exact and it sounds amazing on the clip.
I like to keep an open mind and believe 'innocent until proven guilty'.

The amp is different than all other Dumbles I have seen or played.
Could it be that Mr Dumble doesn't want it known that he modded Fenders in the beginning?
Thats a far stretch I agree, but the fact that you saw the matching type and thought for a second it could be real, says that maybe other people without your resources could too.

Thanks again for the response.

Dumble mainly does mods. This is no secret. He still does mods. If you wanted, you may be able to get an Ultraphonix type mod for the $5K range. I know several people that own them.

Deluxe mods from the70s era have much different lead dress than the example on Ebay. The wiring actually looks much more like some of the early K&M mods that have been on the 'Bay.

Amp does sound good, but certainly not better than the recent clips by Wichita of the Bludo 70s circuit. That thing sounds amazing!

If you love it so much, buy it and live happily ever after...

Personally I like it better than the mayer/jay z clip posted on the garage page, but I would as soon pay 20k for it as I would $70 to see john mayer and jay Z do wanna be stevie ray meets hip hop...

If it is what he says it is put it up for no reserve and see what the market bears...

This is what I meant earlier; more opinionated slur from the cult minded.
Now I'm a weirdo? Because I have an open mind and speak it in a respectful manner? Where do you get off with an insulting post such as this?

I actually read the rules and decorum expectations before I ever posted.
Maybe you should review them yourself.

And BTW, If I could afford it, I would buy it.

I'd trust the opinions of the guys who contribute a lot of knowledge and experience to this forum, before I'd defend a potential ebay scam for $20,000. My two cents.

Visual cues, memory and....

Post by angelodp »

How can you be certain that this is the amp you played many years ago, curious. Are their distinct marks you recall or the mere sound of it. When you played it did you happen to look inside. As you say, you have owned or played many Dumble originals ...
"First of all, at one time I owned two different Dumbles, and have played through many other Dumble amps including the amp in question, the 'Overdrive Deluxe', in New York around 1996 or so."
Can You say which Dumble's you owned and how they stacked up.
This is shaping up to be a bit of a mystery despite the assurance that HAD has communicated that he did not build it. But did he Mod it??
It does sound very good.

Brandon? You have perhaps seen more D's than most .... what's your take.

All good questions, thanks.
First off, it was/is quite unique to other Dumbles; different control layout and I'd never seen another anywhere with reverb AND tremolo. Still haven't.

The thing I remember most about the OD Dlx besides the look, was the ability to get controlled feedback even with the tremolo on full blast.

I did not look inside; and even if I would have had the chance, I would have had no idea what was going on anyway. I am a player, not a builder. So I am out of my element on this forum to some degree.

It's definitely the same amp; evidently it's a conversion from an actual Fender deluxe, so I guess you would call it a mod.
But hey, everyone is so distraught over it here, I'd just as soon not walk in any deeper.

I know for certain it was in this world in its current form around '96 or so, whatever thats worth.

If for some reason Dumble did not build it, whoever did is a freakin' genius.

Let's suppose this amp is the most phenominal amp you have ever heard in person. And let's suppose it was not built/modded by HAD. Would you be willing to pay 20K+ on it?
There are some Dumbles that do sound phenominal. Holy grail i guess you could say. Are they really worth the values they go for on the used market? Is it a matter of the sound or the name? I suppose if you're a musician looking for THAT particular sound as being the most satisfying then yes mabe it is. If your a Dumble collector or just plain rich and looking for something rare and unique then deffinately.
It's not a matter of proving this amp to be a fake but proving legitimate authenticity of it being built/modded by HAD. For this reason i can understand the original add being pulled, whether by HAD or someone else, for using the Dumble name. There just is'nt enough proof of it being legitimate. The new add implys that it is. Under a name like "Modded Deluxe" it's up to the buyer whether this modded deluxe is actually worth 20k+. So, the question is, is there a way of proving this amp to be an authentic HAD build?
Speaking of "holy grail", some Dumbles had it and some did'nt. There are deffinately builders on this forum that have built amps that DO have "it". Keep up the good work.

But, you have to be wary these days since the D amps command such a high price, there will be people tempted to make forgeries.
I know a doctor in Arkansas who has one of these. HAD was finishing it up in August 2005. Typically when Dumble mods an amp it has the "official" blue paper tag put inside of it that Dumble sends the amp out with when he's done...if he did it.

Wow, another smart ass. This forum is obviously for the aggressive alpha male.
Not for me.

I was led to believe that this was an intelligent bunch; just because you have an opinion, no matter how well documented you think it may be, it doesn't entitle you to be an arrogant ass.

Since this will be my last post, how about this; you keep on building clones and playing in your garage band.

Because I've already owned Dumbles, played in front of 20,000 people night after night, toured with legends, and realize that all the gear in the world will not make you a better player.
So lighten the fuck up.

All the posts on this forum will not make you right, because you spit out opinionated slur from your in the know friends here, but mostly, you aren't willing to respect someone else's point of view.

Just like you can't change the fact that I'm the only person on this forum to have even ever seen the damn amp in question in person.

Ignorance is not always bliss people;
but it will always keep you right where you are.
Which appears to be nowhere.

So, go ahead and tear me to shreds, because as of now, I bid you farewell.

Oh, and by the way, I made an offer on the amp and I may still buy it...
I don't care who built the damn thing, it sounds great.

It's buying a painting like a Van Gogh; It can be beautiful painted but if it's a fake it isn't a Van Gogh and therefore not so much worth as the real thing.
