I have the opportunity of getting some 3W output transformers and am wondering what might be a good project for a bedroom amp?
To put it simply: can I use - for example - a classic Fender preamp and stick the 3W transformer plus tube on the end of it, or is there more to it than that?!
Is it possible to use something like a 6V6GT with this trani, or should I be looking at a lower-power tube? What happens if you use a high-power tube with a low-power trani?
a 6V6 will push a healthy 5W. you could look at the ECL82 which would give your roughly 3W at 250V plate voltage. it also saves you a triode stage, since it contains a triode and pentode in one envelope. add one 12AX7 to that and you could hit wreck territory at low volumes
You don't say if the transformers are single ended or push pull or what the primary and secondary loads are rated for. All this makes a difference in making a suggestion. What else do you know about what you have?
