Maybe Chimeboss can tell us, and we could count it as his first actual contribution to the site.
Re: Post on Les Paul forums Re: New Rockets built on KF's bench
I remember the name, as Ken had mentioned him several times. It could be that he even did some soldering etc down at Ken's. But the family would have to approve of him doing the amps again. I know there may have been an unfinished Rocket at Ken's for quite a while. I haven't heard who may have obtained Ken's inventory including unfinished amps. Mark may know the building process tho, but I have reservations about how this new production is being presented.. I really doubt the family gave the business to John Mark

Or more likely ...his last contribution as he is VERY close to being booted!paulster wrote:Maybe Chimeboss can tell us, and we could count it as his first actual contribution to the site.

Personally, I think it's also BS, though he did seem to have his hands on that Komet 80...I would not pay $10K either...the "Great" state of Florida and the "Fabulous" Broward County School Board doesn't pay us teachers enough!
I'm happy with Diana, my Rocket clone done by Paul Ruby, and it should be even better when the Saratovs from the Sarge arrive.

I am awaiting a UPS delivery with a Carol-Ann OD2 which I got in trade.
I'll try to get more info from this guy.

Yeah! Paul does very nice work. I remember seeing pics of Diana elsewhere on the net too. Beautiful amp.mclmk8d wrote:Personally, I think it's also BS, though he did seem to have his hands on that Komet 80...I would not pay $10K either...the "Great" state of Florida and the "Fabulous" Broward County School Board doesn't pay us teachers enough!

Eardrums!!! We don't need no stinkin' eardrums!
Re: Post on Les Paul forums Re: New Rockets built on KF's bench
I've been searching for wood to make a new cabinet for her; she needs something prettier. Depending on price, I'll go with something really nice or the Woodcraft way. Anyone have some good wood sources for something that would be big enough for the project?

I know this amp pretty well. Diana used to belong to my friend John Speck from Detroit. I've mixed live shows with him playing that amp and it sounds KILLER!!! I remember that it was pretty gainy, moreso than what I've heard others describe a Rocket as being, but Diana is the only Rocket I've heard so far so I don't have any basis for comparison. You bought a good one! I have a Paul Ruby Express (Marta) that I bought from Speck about 4 years ago and it's killer too.mclmk8d wrote:Personally, I think it's also BS, though he did seem to have his hands on that Komet 80...I would not pay $10K either...the "Great" state of Florida and the "Fabulous" Broward County School Board doesn't pay us teachers enough!

Dana,
I don't think he will be posting on this site with the great builders we have.
mclmk8d,
For a new cab you could get Distortions, Larry Mann build you a cab. He should be getting close on my Express cab. The K50 style cab he built for my K60 was killer.

I emailed Larry, and they are incredible looking, but right now, it's out of my price range. I have some wood working experience and I'm going to try to keep it simple if I can find some nice wood at a reasonable price; otherwise, I'll do the Woodcraft drawer road.

Re: Post on Les Paul forums Re: New Rockets built on KF's bench
For some reason I can't find the URL with google right now, but I remember reading a site with a history of trainwreck written by someone who said that when Ken was under the weather he was the one who wired up some official Trainwreck amps for Ken
Of course, can't believe everything you read etc etc, and I would be very surprised if many want to pay $10k for a 'not really trainwreck trainwreck' because isn't most of the worth for trainwreck the fact that they are original? Like if Victoria amps tried to sell their amps for $10k just because original tweeds go for $30k or whatnot
IMO, these are the worst kind of clones: they pretend to be the real thing, and go for high prices. I wonder if they'd get taken off of ebay if someone tries to sell one there...
The issue isn't if they sound like real trainwrecks or not - the issue is that the value of trainwrecks come from the sound plus the name and the scarcity - and these are taking advantage of the last 2 parts, not just the 1st like the "inspired by" amps
anyways, will be interesting to see what happens when Lawyers come into question

Re: Post on Les Paul forums Re: New Rockets built on KF's bench
I don't think Ken ever sold his amps for 10K!
Re: Post on Les Paul forums Re: New Rockets built on KF's bench
There was a point in time when you could have purchased seven Trainwrecks built by Ken Fischer's hands and tuned by Ken Fischer's ears for $10K, don't understand why someone would drop that kind of cash on a clone just because it may have been put together on the same workbench... Like someone else said, Ken even stated that he couldn't teach anyone to build a Trainwreck to sound like a Trainwreck... There are plenty of builds done by people here that sound absolutely great, not saying it can't be done but c'mon, $10KRichie wrote:I don't think Ken ever sold his amps for 10K!
