212 Cab Plans
Does anyone have any plans or dimensions for a standard 212 cab. I would prefer something not overly bulky. The cab would be for a ODS I recently finished. I would have to modify the vent at the back a bit most likely.
Anyways any help/input is appreciated.
Thanks

Re: 212 Cab Plans
Have you considered the D-style 2x12? Believe it or not there is enough info in the dumble part of this forum to build one, you just have to search all kinds of threads for a week to gather it. Although, i guess that cab is kind of voluminous if you're looking for compact. I built one not long ago. I don't have a clone type amp, but I think sounds great with whatever I put through it even though it's loaded w/, ehem... Peavey Scorpions
It's really straight forward once you got the dimensions, but if you want I could probably draw a little sumthin up. It's not verified accurate, but the best I could do with the info I found. It might take a little while as I'm feeling a little under the weather right now - I mistakenly ate some McDonalds monday night (it's been about 5 years since I've eaten fast food) and I've been in the bathroom pretty much ever since.

Dan that would be great if you could draw a little something up. I have just started first year Electrical Engineering at University and don't have much free time these days.dano-rator wrote:Have you considered the D-style 2x12? I did a bit of searching in the D forum a few weeks back and didn't find much on 212s.
Haven't had McD's in 4 years. Stay away from it, that shits gross.

Here is one I have collected.
Can't seem to find my others.

Re: 212 Cab Plans
I've got a cab that appears to be a pair of TL-806 cabs stuck together (got it at a garage sale). Not too insanely huge and sounds pretty good.
Hope this helps!

Thanks guys!
Any other 212 plans? Just to see what else there is.

Re: 212 Cab Plans
Edit: fixed conflicting info in attached drawing.......
Sorry it took so long...
If you're handy enough to build it you should be able to build it from this drawing. The dimensions listed are, I think, correct as they would suit the 21 1/2" head cab, which I think dumbles are. I built mine a little different but pretty much the same idea.
Any questions just ask.

Thanks!
That is exactly what I have been looking for.
Do you know if the internal volume has been calculated for any particular driver?
Such as a EVM 12L?

Re: 212 Cab Plans
You're VERY welcome! Glad I could give back.
No I really don't know, I didn't really design it. It's just a heap of info in visual form.
I assume Mr. D calculated it out for something either the EVM or the Altec or ?
I only know that it rocks pretty good with what I have in it.

Re: 212 Cab Plans
Those cabs work well with celestion g12-65 and with EVM12L series II.

Re: 212 Cab Plans
A cab like this is not a reflex cab based on modern speaker theory. The "port" length in this case is only the rear panel thickness, which is far too short to calculate to any meaningful value.
This cab, and other like this, are more of a modified version of an open back cab,or more correctly in modern speaker terms, an open baffle, where the size of the hole presents some small resistance to the air flow. This OTOH is not to say the cab doesn't work, which it obviously does. Modern reflex calculations are based on the socalled T/S (Thiele/Small) parameters, which as far as I have found is non existent for e.g. Celestion drivers ( they can be measured though, by putting a speaker in test box of known dimensions ).
It may be based on the pre wartime practice of porting speaker cabs by making a "panel port" of appx. the same area as the membrane, which is roughly equal in this case.........

Re: 212 Cab Plans
also check out a THD cab how its build size etc..
http://www.thdelectronics.com/product_p ... eaker.html
it has that opening in the back, slot across the back. I have heard these cabs, and what ever they put in them,is a really great sounding cab. One cab to stay away from is a fender tonemaster cab.. that is the most tone sucking cab i have ever encountered.. got a new one in a trade, and no matter what speakers i tried, that cab sucked big time. The only time it sounded good is if only one 12 was in the cab..kinda like a detuned cab. maybe also look at the vox 2x12 ext cab.. or maybe a 2x12 ext cab like an 18 watt marshall.

Re: 212 Cab Plans
Man those THD cabs are expensive! $720 for a 212?
I have always had a mental block about spending big bucks on a speaker box.
I have a cheap 2 x 12 (Lopo) that with 2 EVM 12L Classics that probably would sound a lot better in a nicer enclosure.
I love the speakers so I should build a nice cab.
That one that mcrracer posted looks interesting as well.
Did you build one of these or buy one already made?
But ideally, I would want the cab vertical so i could put my amp head on top.
I have seen some vertically staggered 2 x 12's that look good and they get a little wider due to the stagger.
