I used a modified Silverface Quad Reverb for years.. Got some pretty cool Stevie tones out of that Monster..I liked it better than the Showman... Or just could have been one of those good sounding Fenders!!

According to what I've heard, the set-up in an SSS is similar...but uses a 12AX7 instead of a 12BH7 as a cathode-follower/driver. Plan on a bias supply of -150 volts...with a B+ of around 500. If you work the circuitry right, you can take the -150 off the bottom of a 650 volt PT (think MusicMan), leaving the remaining 500 for the B+. Cathode resistor on cathode-follower/driver S/B 100k if you want an exact clone. My version is different.

Yep, thats the jist. I explain it to people as providing constant current sourceto the power tubes. As a result you get less PI breakup, and little (if any) PI distortion. Also by providing each power tube with its own current source, it helps prevent any clipping or distortion as a result of sag on the current supply being supplied through the PI.

Interesting what Thyx says, I have heard it both ways. That said I have built my version of the SSS with a 12ax7 run (dually) as a cathode follower, each half driven from 1/2 the PI. Works great, and does exactly what it is supposed to.

Not sure how applicable it would be to the SSS but it may help.

Is that Kaisers 100w? If so then it sounds amazing. I think it's my favorite SSS after the KTC...whatever happened to that amp?

That is Henry's amp. He told me he still owns it. Trying to get him to send it to me .

These days he is digging his new Super Overdrive II.
