SSS - Preliminary Preamp Schematic with Reverb
Hello AGF and particularly the SSS curious among you...
I've gathered some more info and put together the next phase of a preamp schematic, adding the Reverb section and a place holder for the High/Low filters as well.
This is basically the first stage of an ODS with an AB763 Reverb section. The High/Low filters leave a lot of options open and I'm not sure if they should be in parallel as I've shown them or in series...
Knowledgeable, kind, and constructive comments are welcome...
thanks in advance.

Has anyone looked at the phase inverter/output section on a McIntosh MC 40 power amp with regards to using on a SSS?

Re: SSS - Nukular Warhead - Chassis are Finished
Thanks for posting that Terry. I looked through a ton of old hi fi schematics for different step filter schemes, but I never came across this one. Looks like it could fit the bill to me. Can anyone see why it wouldn't work? I've been looking for a scaled down Ampeg style circuit that's direct coupled to the output tubes.txbluesboy wrote:Has anyone looked at the phase inverter/output section on a McIntosh MC 40 power amp with regards to using on a SSS?Code: Select all

Still untouched but gathering info and will start on it later this fall. Right now looking at trannies and boards.

Re: SSS - Nukular Warhead - Chassis are Finished
Finally back to working on the SSS project again...
Dunno if you've seen this... https://tubeamparchive.com/viewtopic.php?t=6552
It's an old thread but there are a couple hints at how these things work...
In this thread you'll find the statement that the EQ is basically the Skyliner and the Reverb is a Fender circuit. I'm sure there is more and as always I learn something new every time I reread an old thread.
One big question mark in these builds is still how the filters work. Does anyone know if they are passive or active? The SSS link posted above gives a hint that the Sterling copy uses something passive, but the comments from Max indicate that there was more happening than a simple tone stack.
Any thoughts?
rj
Skyliner =
.1 uF bass cap
.01uF Mid cap
330pf treble cap
mid switch
250KA treble pot
500KA bass pot with .001uF cap
250KA middle pot

I think the treble pot is 250KB (linear), and since you say "mid switch" the treble cap becomes .002 or .002+390pf - just sayin'RJ Guitars wrote:

I'm good with what we have so far but some have said to use a SVT power section but I would rather keep my SSS to the use of 6L6 ala Twin style.

Good input Master Fowler!
The SVT part of the puzzle I think is important, especially the use of the 12BH7 drivers right before the power tubes. From the various pictures we've seen we know that there are many SSS amps with 6L6GC power tubes so it doesn't sound like the 6550's are the entire key to these outfits.
Hope we can get the balance of the info to create these amps with the true SSS singing quality.
thanks,
rj

The most important question rj is. We are going to use Vox style grill cloth on our heads aren't we.
Speaking of that, I don't feel like making my own head cabinet, do you have some made up?

RJ is out of computer range just now.
I wish he'd come back soon. I make French press coffee and without him here to share it, I'm drinking twice as much!

Woah. Am I missing something I never seen those shots before.
By the looks of it, it seems the boards are PCB with PC mount sockets for the preamp. Is this right?
