Saying hi and a couple of questions

Post by mclmk8d »

I just registered today after reading a lot of Trainwreck info. I have the opportunity to get a couple of clones, one by Paul Ruby, and another by perhaps someone here or another Train Wreck board (a Francesca clone).
I couldn't find a lot of recent info on Paul Ruby other than the sad case of him getting screwed over by the distributors of Ruby Tubes. Are his amps very well made and reliable? As for the other, it looks like a fine job and hopefully also well made with great tone. Was it someone here that made that one?
Any help here is much appreciated; please excuse my newbieness. I currently have a 60 watt Marshall-toned hand-made, hand wired PTP amp made by John Korchinski, a well-regarded amp builder and tech here in South Florida ( www.ampjunkyard.com ), and have grown to appreciate small builders. The specs:
Mesa Boogie 5U4GB GT rectifier tube, 3 JJ ECC83S pre-amp tubes, and 2 GT EL34 power tubes putting out approx. 60 watts, though it can be re-biased for 6L6s.
It is based on an upgraded Marshall circuit:
NOS 1968 Mullard mustard caps
NOS Thordarson output transformer
NOS Merit power transformer
NOS Stancor choke
NOS Chicago USA output sockets
F&T German standup filter caps
Custom red glass epoxy board
The amp has an unbuffered series FX loop and a dampening circuit to go from a vintage to a modern sound.

mclmk8d,

I like the cage amp look very nice and the build looked to be done very well in the slide show. 8)

Oh yeah welcome to Ampgarage too. :)

Question how do you like the Trainwreck clones you have compared to the Marshall style amp of yours the Antigue Iron? The TW can be very bright and hard to control.

No TW clones yet

Mark,
Currently, I don't have any TW clones. I've done a bunch of reading, listened to clips, and I now have the opportunity to acquire 2 of them in trades; I am trying to get info on them.
The first is a Paul Ruby amp head and the second may have been built by someone here; it is a Francesca clone. Do you have any info on the 2 clones? Good, bad, so so, reliability, etc? Any help is good; I'm new to the TW world.
