It's tough to get the cap right w/o really trying it at normal play vol, or a gig, or rehearsal, where u can hear the interaction. Amps vary, and u might need
only a small cap, or none. Too big a cap and the fat low mids can seem to disappear. More or less u want the clean to have a touch of sparkle, and the od to not have too shrill top end, adjusting the treb bleed on the od master can refine it. Having a meter saves time---

that's sorta what I've been finding, I really like the effect both on the cleans and OD, but the right balance is tricky to find and very volume dependent - I'm going to wire two different values to an on-off-on switch and bring it to practice tomorrow night, where I'm sure the volume will get turned up a bit...

Now that I think about it, my Fluke probably has a capacitance meter built in, I never thought to check. If not, then it seems like that meter is $30 well spent.

For what it's worth I have a 47pf on my master.

Well, I did explain the master bypass issues last night, my fluke does have a capacitance meter, and sure enough the caps I thought were 10, 15 and 30 pF were actually 100, 150 and 300, which explains the giant change and the fact that they all sounded the same. The confusing thing is that a CMO5-150j labeled silver mica cap is indeed 15pF, while some other non branded caps that I had lying around labeled 150j are actually 150pF, I suspected this as it was the only logical explanation, but until I discovered my meter actually had a cap measurement I had no way to check.

So, I now have a 30pF in there and whamo, I have the tone I've been seeking with the single coil pickups, nice and full with all the pickups, very strat-like tone. I'll post some clips, just need to wait a few more days for Hendrix to break in my speakers :-)

That explains why those vintage speakers are so pricey! Will mine sound better if I break them in with a recording of Hendrix Smile
Band of Gypsys works best..
