Re: lulu the amp repair dog
Yeah that is a good picture. My two dogs lay right in front of the amp and listen to me play, I cannot figure out why they don't move as it has to be loud as heck. And no they are not deaf.

Re: lulu the amp repair dog
No dogs at my house. The wife's cat runs to the door every time he sees me bring an extension cord anywhere near the amps.
Apparently, we have different musical taste

I'm a wet blanket.
I shoo my curious dog out of the way of amps.
Too often I'll have an open chassis where her nose (or tail) can reach-I don't want her shocked.

I had a cat that would climb in the back of my amp while I played.Wayne wrote:No dogs at my house. The wife's cat runs to the door every time he sees me bring an extension cord anywhere near the amps.

"Discipline" and "cat" are mutually exclusive concepts.drhulsey wrote:Deaf cats are the Dickens to discipline
"Beating" a cat that behaves badly may be "momentarily satisfying" but does little to correct the beast's behavior.
/ Currently have a dog that thinks cats are chew toys.
// Not happy about that.

Our dogs are more likely to lick you to death than attack.
The Rottie and Dalmatian are the two big ones but the little one, a long haired Dachshund is what we call death from the ankles down.
My UPS/FedEx guys run up to the porch and leave whatever and run back to their truck.
Pussies!

Two Great Danes here and a bunch of cats. Great dogs, very friendly, but don't come through the gate if they don't "know" you!
My previous brood of dogs, all deceased now of old age, used to come lay in the room where I was playing. I never understood it, but animals like music too.

Eardrums!!! We don't need no stinkin' eardrums!
Re: lulu the amp repair dog
Our cats leave the house if they see a guitar, but leave with extreme prejudice at the sight of a harmonica. My dog used to howl along with the harp, but that was his way of showing appreciation. Clearly.
Re: lulu the amp repair dog
I have a buddy who has some sort of a Boxer. She howls at guitar playing, but only on bent notes. Chords & straight single notes don't affect her.
I remembered this just now because he (my buddy) leaves with extreme prejudice at the sight of a harmonica.

Re: lulu the amp repair dog
there's something about the free reed instrument that really troubles animals. Not so many spiders in the house, even, since I took up the harp. Perhaps that's how St Patrick banished all the snakes out of Ireland, maybe he used to play that Irish jiggery harmonica stuff. Poor creatures, they preferred to try to swim to America.
Re: lulu the amp repair dog
Our yellow lab is extremely friendly, but extremely loud when someone rings the doorbell or knocks on the door. That's really handy with salesweasels who ignore the 'no-soliciting' sign. The last comcast guy that came over refused to leave even after I pointed out the sign. I told him he had about 5 seconds to get off the property or I was going to let go of the dog (who had been barking the entire time as I held his collar). He thought I was bluffing so I slackened my arm and Max jumped forward. The sales-puke left in an awful hurry.
About 45 minutes later, I got a call from the police chief who's a good friend of ours (I love living in a small town.) He told me that it was one of the more interesting complaints that he's had to field and asked me not to do it again .... Unless I could get it on video because it sounded hillarious from the sales-guys point of view.
Max has helped once with an ultrasonic (to humans) oscillation on one of the higher-gain amps I built. I'd be playing and he'd all of a sudden start going nuts and barking at the speaker cab. I hooked up an oscilloscope and yep, there was a bad oscillation in the 30kHz range. A little chopsticking and it was gone.
As for cats, remember: dogs have owners. Cats have staff.
