HRM gets loads of bass up front. Then trimmed on the ass end. It leaves lots of overtones. My amp has switching for fat CL2 or OD2. Both ways sound great but the traditional way is the recognizeable tone with the artifacts. The thin/fat way is softer attack and more bloom. But, lacking the harmonics.
Interesting... I'm excited to see the outcome.

I'm also hoping to hear what folks think of the UL output section. It may be a bad idea but the taps are there so why not try it.

Bob, after just (2) Fender 75 builds( one HRM, one Non HRM) the sound was WAAY better WITH the UL taps to my ears, just SWEETER..Also gets rid of xtra baggage w/NO screen supply as well. jp

Must be why Dumble always used UL.....

(my observations are opposite btw)

Excellent... glad to hear that... but it brings up another question.

I planned a PS exactly as if I have a screen supply. How would I modify this for UL operation? Would I take the PI B+ directly off the choke? Or should I have an additional filter stage like I've drawn?

Thx.

Bob, run a resistor AFTER the choke to DROP the B+ and also separate ther NODES... FWIW, I ran a RESISTOR for choke, + another series resistor for the PI supply, the amp was is SUPERNATURAL according to my customer, that`s all i need to hear! 8) jp

Groovtubin,

A few years ago I played a UL bandmaster wich was SMOOTH.

Can you draw up a schematic of what you did to the power supply?

Thanks,
Jelle

Its simple, take the std dumble power supply circuit, YANK OUT the SCREEN SUPPLY FILTER CAPS, add a DROPPING resistor to feed the PI, thats it!! The CHOKE or "" choke resistor" stays in SAME place...jp You can also find a fender 75 schematic @ Schematic heaven, linked from the BLUE GUITAR.com

Interesting....

Has anyone tried that 1/2 power ckt on a Dumble? It looks simple to execute and might get that classic Dumble tone at lower volumes.

Peavey did something different too on the VTX. Instead of using the 350-0-350 AC supply into 2 diode strings, it used the full 700V on a bridge and switched to the CT for 350V into the bridge. They could do this because there's no preamp supply, the preamp being SS.

I just realized that I have a 15VAC tap that I can use for a relay supply

Groovtubin,
With the dropping resistor do you mean the 30K 20W resistor or the 2700ohm resistor in the fender 75 schematic?

A bit off topic: For my first build I bought a UL 2x6L6 fender amp and coverted it to a 1X15'' vibroverb amp. Traded the transformers for blackface style trannies. Turned uot to be a big misstake... The tone was more meUL!

Thanks,

Right! You`ll HAVE to ADJUST that resistor though for YOUR POWER SUPPLY!!l jp
