Magnetic Components
Has anyone here heard of this company or tried any tranformers from this place http://magneticcomponents.net/index.html I happen to find them searching for Fender prosonic OT. Thanks, Chad
Re: Magnetic Components
Chad,
I saw this site before and noticed no prices which I hate and I have not had any dealings with them. Glad more companies are making replacement transformers.

Re: Magnetic Components
All I can tell you is that they require a 25 piece minimum for wholesale pricing. They'll be keeping them.
Re: Magnetic Components
That no price thing bothers me a bit too . It is nice to see more companies building tranfomers, but never heard anything about this place.M Fowler wrote:Chad,

Re: Magnetic Components
These Magnetic Components transformers are sold by Triode Electronics in Chicago and AES (CE Dist.) in AZ.
These are their 'house' Fender and Marshall replacement transformers and chokes---- a few AES house models are made by Hammond but they are identified as Hammond products.
Lots of builders have used these transformers for yrs without knowing for sure who made them---- just that they were "Made in USA".
i didn't know that Magnetic Components in Chicago made these trannies until recently---i've used plenty of them in the last few yrs myself.
The only thing i've noticed about their Fender replacement iron is great tone at a very reasonable price----i replaced the blown orig OT in a '62 Brownface Bandmaster with an AES (Mag Comp) replacement----i was going to have the orig OT rewound and i was going to use the AES replacement only until i could get a "quality" OT for the amp----after i heard the amp with the AES OT i forgot about getting another OT, it sounded just as good as my other two Brownface Fender Bandmasters with orig Schumacher OT's.
Here's a clip of a 2204 clone i built with the AES (CE/Mag Comp) 50 watt Marshall OT----the lead track and the right rhythm track are the 2204 clone with the AES OT------ click on "Mule 2204/120-SLO Industrial"-- http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default ... dID=741589
The other amp in the left rhythm track is a Sound City 120 that i converted into a Soldano SLO lead channel, but that's another story.
I just bought more AES 50 watt Marshall OT's for future builds because i think they are a great value for the sound quality---- but i bought Edcor PT's for the same builds because they offer a 350-0-350V @175mA and 6.3V @ 4A model for $50.47 (XPWR109)---- other Edcor PT's i've built with are performing flawlessly after over 2 yrs of use in local bands.
http://www.edcorusa.com/Products/ShowPr ... spx?ID=677
I've also used many Heyboer, Mercury, and other iron in builds----i just try to get the best value for my $$$$$--- YMMV..................gldtp99
PS--- i'm not ready to order in minimum quanities of 25 per p/n, either --- so until Mag Comp changes this policy i'll get them from AES or Triode when i want them.

Re: Magnetic Components
Marvel Electric/Magnetic Components is a well known OEM supplier of quality iron - for instance they manufacture most transformers and chokes distributed by New Sensor, the DynaClone line resold by Triode Electronics, etc.Has anyone here heard of this company or tried any tranformers from this place
You'd be surprised at the number of transformers and chokes bearing their EIA codes (166 for MC, 986 for ME)...
Re: Magnetic Components
If the New Sensor 50 watt Marshall OT's are made by Mag Comp then here's a clip of one of them in one of the modern voiced 50 watters i've been experimenting with lately----i got this OT used off the 'bay for @$40-- the PT is a Heyboer Marshall replacement as sold by Mojotone----4H/90mA choke from AES (125C1A replacement made by Mag Comp).
The lead track is boosted by a Keeley modded Tubescreamer-- click on "Mule M50"-- http://www.myspace.com/gldtp99

Re: Magnetic Components
I used a Dynaclone in my Rocket, and it sounds wonderful. I wasn't aware of who the manufacturer was at the time.
Re: Magnetic Components
I used the Edcor PT and Dynaclone in my Rocket as well and is one of my favorite builds to date.

Re: Magnetic Components
I just picked up 2 of their 50 watt "Marshall" OT and 2 Hammond 272JX power from AES for a very stout plexi and a hopped up JCM 800 build (think egnater TOL). 10% off and free shipping right now from AES.
Thanks gldtp99, your clips on the forums pushed me over the edge on this one...
Has anyone else noticed that the primaries of the AES vs Triode Marshall replacement are different, IIRC 3200 vs 3600??? I am guessing that they are not quite exactly the same.

Re: Magnetic Components
Prices are posted now, but before you get excited they are the 25 piece minimum prices. Turns out these are the same Fender / Marshall replacement pieces that I've been using from CE distribution(aes wholesaler) for the past 5 years and can vouch for the vintage construction models The JCM800/SLP1959 replacement iron is some of the best I've ever used.
Re: Magnetic Components
Thanks for all the info guys. I didn't realize they made trans for so many outlets. Some kick ass clips gldtp99 Nice playing! Chad

Re: Magnetic Components
Allen Amps sells these where his list does not say "custom made by Heyboer". I have had several of Allen's transformers shipped to me in Magnetic Components boxes, although I think eveything I bought from him was the Heyboers.
Dave Allen knows his stuff so I'm sure this company's iron would be good.
Someone mentioned Edcor, I am just finishing up a 5F6A head (sort of) with 8417s and 6SL7GTs intead of 5881s and 12AX/Y7s, and put in an Edcor 70W 3k5 OT. Big mother, 11 pounds! Looking forward to hearing it, I have seen many good write-ups on Edcor iron. Made in Carlsbad New Mexico.

Re: Magnetic Components
These are also used in Victoria amps.
