Rocket Combo Idea
The KT-66 Rocket thread is interesting.
https://tubeamparchive.com/viewtopic.ph ... t66+rocket
I think I’d like to build one, yet place the chassis in a 1x12 combo cab. Also, the chassis would be mounted like a Marshall combo or Fender Deluxe. That is, the controls are accessed from the front of the amp. I was thinking about using the standard Rocket chassis and simply mounting it upside down. Doing a little research on the combo cab, I cannot find any cab builders offering this type of combo cab. See below for rough cab design. It’s just an idea.
Anyway, I would greatly appreciate any advice or concerns you may have with this type of build. I understand the concern around trainwreck circuits not being conducive to combo situations. However, I think the rocket circuit maybe be an exception to this rule.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Rocket Combo Idea
I've built a KT66 Rocket combo and Liverpool combo and they both sound great!
I just built a cab like the one you've pictured for an 18W Trex. Blind Lemon kindly gave me some dimensions and I took a stab at it. It turned out alright, for my first legitimate try at wood working.

Oh sure, now Ron HAS to build it. You should have said, "Oh, I built one, and it was lame...sounded terrible."soma_hero wrote:I've built a KT66 Rocket combo and Liverpool combo and they both sound great!

Trainwreck Sized Combo Cabinets
Rawnster,
The Trainwreck combo is a great idea, especially for anything built from the Rocket circuit. The Express and Liverpool builds would probably work, but it might require a little bit more work. It has been done and you can find posts on it here in AGF.
The chassis would have to be built in a mirror image or maybe just turn the chassis controls upside down and make a new faceplate if your cool with that.
I designed a couple cabinets a while back and found a great cabinet builder who is standing ready to build them upon my request... just not enough time and money for so many ideas.
Anyway, these are my cabinet drawings if they inspire anyone to go to the next step and put it all together. I'll offer cabinets and faceplates cheap if anybody wants to make an open AGF project of it.

Re: Rocket Combo Idea
Hey Markus, great looking cab. I'm glad to hear about your success. As David jokingly said, I've got to try it now.
RJ, thanks for your help. I'm sure I'll be bugging you a bit as I start to think through the differences in the circuit using big bottles as apposed to el84s.

A cab like this Matchless cab would be cool!

Re: Rocket Combo Idea
I absolutely love the look of the modern Matchless cabs. The old ones were cool...sure...but the new ones are just that much classier. Something about their dimensions/proportions/color schemes. Perfect.

Talk to Anthony at StageCraftGear.com (Reason Amps) as I'm sure he could whip one up for you. DC30 combo cab drilled for a Wreck chassis.
Eardrums!!! We don't need no stinkin' eardrums!
Re: Rocket Combo Idea
Also I use Dr Z blemished cabinets and they take a 17 x 8 x 2.5 chassis with the same cutout as you noted.

Thanks Darin and Mark. Great options for sure. This one is going to be fun!

Re: Rocket Combo Idea
Nice find, Mark. You're right too. A little spendy for a 1x12 cab. Nevertheless, it's very nice looking.
This one from Mather Amp Cabinets is very nice as well.
