Hi,
I have a trainwreck express clone currently tubed with 6v6s, but I'm thinking of going back to EL34s - my main cab is a closed-back 2x12 with two celestion greenbacks. I am thinking it'd be cool to have some less sensitive speakers in there so that I can run the amp harder without being too loud for the band, but I'm not sure what is out there.. most speakers with a published sensitivity seem to be louder than the greenbacks I already have. I have seen some Jensens that have much lower sensitivity but I have no idea if they are a good match for the 'wreck.
I am a hard rock player, venturing into sabbath/ judas priest/van halen territory with my tone.. i like a thick sort of tone with lots of midrange, a tight low end and balanced trebles

Send Ted Weber an e-mail with these questions, he knows his $h1t about speakers and will build to suit your needs. Also look through his stock speakers, it will give you an idea of the range that is possible. Even if you don't buy from him he'll have good info.

There aren't many speakers that are less efficient than GBs at 96dB. You may want to consider VVR or an attenuator for this purpose.
BTW- If you haven't heard, Ted W is quite ill and his son has been running the show for a while. Not sure what this will mean for his business though.

Re: low sensitivity/high power handling speaker suggestions
So - let me get this straight - you had trouble finding a drummer that played loud enough?
