Who made this tube?

Post by solderstain »

I was messing with preamp tubes in my Expressish today, and while digging through my 'Big Drawer 'o Tubes' I found a couple of these that I'd never tried in anything before. They sound great in my Expressish, and now I'm more than mildly curious about what they really are.

They're labeled as "Hammond", but the red silk-screening is over the top of the original silver/gray silk-screening that says 12AX7 and USA. My only really uneducated guess is that they're RCAs, but I don't know. Anyone have a clue? I wouldn't mind finding some more of these...

That plate structure is not RCA, it doesn't look like any major brand I've seen.
But the lettering seems like it, might be a production run for a specific electronics manufacture?

Three ribs across the plate? Very used to seeing a narrow plate.

Dot markings = GE
Long plate, halo getter, early '60S.

I see HAM__ND and USA - I'd say it came out of a Hammond organ. Who made it? No clue. Maybe go ask on a B-3 fansite?

Hope this helps!

Excellent, Tube ID isn't a strong point for me , are there any more recommended
reference materials or web sites?

Alas, there's very little reference-grade material when it comes to identify tubes.
