Concorde vs. Asteroid/Clone

I am really interested in a Concorde, but the cost is a major consideration. Is there anything that the original will give me that the clone won't, excluding price, resale, etc.

I have owned both and as far as I could tell the Clone sounded and was built as well as the original..
Possibly even a bit better.
With some of the extra options such as the gradual/fast switch the clone actually has more to offer than the original..
Of course this is just my opinion..

This is a great question and I've wondered the same thing. I've heard people say that the "magic" in an original TW or Dumble has not been replicated yet. I don't know if I can believe that.

I know that there are builders who can make a Marshall better than Marshall. I built my 18 watt from a GDS kit and I'm convinced it's better than a reissue 1974x.

So Distortion, with respect to the Concorde vs. the clone, are you saying that you were able to do an A/B with both and found no tonal or feel differences? If this is emphatically stated, then I will go with the clone. Others please chime in as well.

I owned them both at the same time and was able to do the A B thing..
They are both great Rock and Roll amps.
The cab I used for both of these amps was my old 68 Marshall 4 x 12 bottom cabinet loaded with G12H30's.
I honestly could not tell a difference sound wise between the amps.

The clone I owned was built by Allyn Meyers who builds a mean amp.
I can't speak for any other builders, but Allyn's amp was amazing.

I don't hang out on the trainwreck side a lot as I'm mostly on the Dumble part of TAG but....

another +1 for Allyn's amps! He sure builds awesome stuff!

I've had both, and Allyn's put a bigger grin in my ears FWIW. Simply awesome amp. Build quality was just off the charts and the addition of the footswitchable fast /gradual is genius.

Based on what I've read on this site and the overwhelmingly positive feedback on Allyn's amp, I went ahead and bought one. It arrived today. It is a MONSTER. It sounds the way I've always wanted my Marshall plexi to sound. Simply fantastic!

Yes I agree. I built my 18 watter, but after looking at the gutshots of Allyn's amp, I was quick to realize that my skills/knowledge are not up to that level of a build. I might do a plexi marshall build as my next one, but the asteroid/tribute amp looked too advanced for me.

If you can build an 18watter you can build the Asteroid its just has a little different layout is all. I wasn't aware one could still get concorde or asteroid kits?
