I guess I don't hang out here enough to know about all the politics and innerworkings of this forum. I didn't know there are commercial builder's hanging out taking shared information and then dissing people like Brandon who provide it; guess I might be less inclined to share information having been treated that way myself...

Actually I've been hanging out more at the Freestompbox site than here. It's a very dynamic site. It's not unusual to see 3 or more new schematics everyday. Another thing about that site is they have a "No Teasing" rule which means if you show pictures of something or even mention that you have a certain device then you are expected to share information about it; either schematics, gutshots, or both.

I usually go to Freestompbox then come here so when I saw Brandon's "how do you think I did?" pictures I had this knee jerk reaction of "he's teasing" but now I see that was not the case and even if he was teasing it's OK to do that here...

I have sent Brandon a personal apology thru PM and I also apologize to anyone else who's feathers I may have ruffled. Just for the record I'm not and will never be a commercial amp builder and I'm not a troll. [not sure I even know how to be one]

It's too bad there are inconsiderate people out there who make sharing information difficult but as for me I have no secrets to hide. I've just finished a Stereo SSS [non-reverb] which I'm sure is not completely true to the original but it sounds pretty good to me. I am posting my schematic so that anyone who would like a starting point for building their own SSS can use it as a starting point. I welcome constructive criticism and if anyone would be willing to PM me to share any improvements that could be made to get things closer to the original...

Thanks for that TicTac.

You also have to remember that while it may seem like a close knit little community, this is the world wide web so what you may be sharing with a few close internet buddies is out there for the whole world to see.

Once it is posted and Google search will turn it up.

dr. who wrote:Hey Brandon would you ever make a 100w version like Kaisers? I'm also interested to see if you'll ever make the ODSR.
Yes, i actually have a detailed schematic for an early one, it has parts that were originally designed for unmanned space missions in the 50's and 60's (we know how much HAD likes his surplus!) but I found that I really like the sound of the bigger amp much better, so that's the direction I went.

I actually went to the trouble of having those parts re-manufactured, they were quite pricey- about $50 ea for a component the size of a sugar cube!

The ODSR will happen in the future, and I plan to do it using the OLD circuit and all.

Too bad I couldn't make the NY show. I would like to have personally meet Brandon and a few other good guys on this forum.

It interesting how the SSS allows personal tweaking of the tone caps for individual taste, and imagine it's both single coil and humbucker friendly.

Agreed. Brandon falls into the "Good guy" category.

Let's be completley fair here. No one designed guitar amps from scratch. The tube manufactures published the circuits and the math in the manuals.

What Brandon did was disect what HAD did to the SSS and document his findings. Not unlike what Jim Marshall did for the original JTM45 from the 5F6-A bassman.

So if Brandon wants to keep his research private he has every right to do so. If anyone else disagrees, then take apart a few SSS and document it.

Can't wait to hear this amp next week Brandon. Looks awesome, and I bet sounds even better. 8)
Absolutely ! Brandon is a Knowledgeable and generous guy in my book. I wouldn't be half as smart at amps if I didn't meet Brandon on the Holffmans Forum and here. Thanks for all the info Funk. Chad

were the tonal differences dramtic between twin iron=6l6GC
vs SVT iron=6550
I'm sure you tried both iron and tube compliments wondering what you're thoughts were.
These amps are loud and wondering if 2 x 6550 would tame it down with out altering the tone much. what iron, voltages, would complement a pair of 6550 best? I'm after the texas flood sound.

cool amp no doubt!

I have to laugh out loud. :D

I remember the warm reception I was given here by Funkalicousgroove when I joined this forum three years ago. IIRC, the thread had to be locked by the mods. His opinions were quite vocal, especially on the subject of cloning, my business of recreating the old pre rola Celestion tone, etc.

Three years later, and offering "Dumble" clones for sale/profit, and now posing in pictures to goof on HAD for fun? Heh heh. Brandon has certainly come full circle, whether or not he'd like to admit it publicly, or if anyone on this forum would care to recall it.

It's one thing to clone a discontinued product, and offer it for sale. If you can further the product line/idea with logical enhancements (such as the gradual/fast footswitch mod offered on Concorde clones by Allan, for example) and upgrades to improve the use/playability/etc, that's OK with me, too. But taking the image of the guy who's amp lines/ideas/mods you've cloned, modified and are profiting from and posing for pics to look like him, too? I think that shows incredible disrespect, IMO.

While I'm no longer associated or friends with Dumble, I don't make fun of a guy with a weight issue. Many of you have benefited tonally from his amps, Brandon's amps (cloned/modded from original Dumble's) and I wonder how many of the posters here are overweight (I know I am), yet felt the need to make fun of this pic and Dumble? It's immature and shows little respect for a man that has created "a sound to remember" or clone, as it were.

I think the "cloned" picture is in extremely bad taste...but that's just me.

I assure you my opinion of you hasn't changed in the least, and my issue with you is still the same. You are a hypocrite- You clone speakers, and are justified, We clone amps and are wrong? One set of standards will do fine thanks.

Furthermore, the picture has nothing to do with HAD's weight, and since I tip the scales at a Hefty 280lbs myself you'd have to be as absurd as i have you pegged for to think such.

The picture I took was in almost the same pose, and I didn't realize it until I saw the picture, and that is why i posted it. A dumble clone Photo was worth a chuckle, at MY expense.

That being said, being overweight isn't a disability, it isn't a disease, it isn't a handicap- IT IS A CHOICE. There are more diseases linked to obesity than smoking, than asbestos exposure, than hanging out near depleted uranium, and ALL OF THEM ARE AVOIDABLE-- Cry me a river! I choose to eat Cheeseburgers, twinkies, and fried chicken, and I am overweight because of it, I don't want sympathy, I don't make people push me around in wheelchairs at airports, I don't have a handicap sticker on my car, because people who TRULY ARE DISABLED need those parking spaces. If you have a weight issue that you are sensitive about then do something about it. I am not sensitive about my weight because I am fully aware that it is 100% self inflicted, and anyone who has shared a meal with me will tell you that I am the first one to say that Bacon makes fat kids happy!

Funkalicousgroove,

I enjoyed the picture of HAD and of you as well as your great looking amp.

I will make sure my SSS is built as well as your amp and this only fuels me to build my first Dumble style amp, thanks.

I tip the scale at 320 pounds at 6' 2'' far cry from my Marine Corps days of 182 running my arse off. How about we go get us a cheese burger and budweiser!

This was my "warm introduction" if anyone would care to read what upset me about Southbay, he of course deleted all his comments and ran away with his tail between his legs and didn't rear his head for quite some time.

I think I just spit coffee through my nose. :D Thanks for having a sense of humor. Way too many people take themselves too seriously.

Thanks for all the help with my amp too. 8)

You owe me a cup of coffee and a keyboard  .. maybe a new shirt too if the stains from spitting coffee out of my nose don't come out.

My 5 year old daughter is so skinny we can't find clothes to fit her and she love bacon too. Go figure.

Yeah the cloning debate always makes me chuckle.

It's actually cloning the clones to be accurate.

I wonder if Jim Marshall or Leo Fender were ever asked if they were copying circuits?

As mentioned there really isn't much new out there since the engineers from the 30's designed all the amp circuits for the tube manuals.

We still refer to those old publications.

I don't really care if Southbay is cloning Celestions either.

But he isn't making any friends by attacking Brandon here.

Don't forget Southbay, what is written on the internet goes on forever.

It's also interesting about some of the posts at The Gear Page where the cork sniffers abound.

The latest multi-page thread was about gooping the guts of pedals.

God, can't we just go back to building amps and pedals and leave the drama to the drama queens that seem to have too much time on their hands.......
