Cut control verses Presence control

Post by mcrracer »

Concerning the cut control as used in the Rocket. Would a presence control be worthwhile in addition to the cut? Or would it be redundant? Thanks

If your talking about putting one in a rocket you need to incorporate some feedback for the presence control to work. The Rocket is open loop.

I did not ask how to add a presence control. Please read the question asked. Thanks

Rather than bother to post a stroppy response, why don't you take a second to read your question yourself and clarify it if you're not getting the answers you want?

Whether or not it's how you intended it reads as 'take the Rocket as the basis and is it worth adding a presence control in addition to the existing cut control (since in addition suggests adding), or would it be redundant because the cut is already there?'

If you're trying to ask whether it's worth adding a cut control to an amp with an existing presence control then take a listen to a Komet 60 or Concorde which have both and make your mind up.

Paulster, I have valued your responses to my previous inquiries and also to this one as you seem to be quite knowledgeable. I do not pretend for a minute to be a know it all. However I asked the question that I needed an answer to. The Rocket is the only amp I knew of off hand So I used it as a reference which someone who was not familiar with a cut control, could easily look up the schematic. My question still seems clear enough to me. I did not ask "how do you add a presence control to a Rocket?" Rather I asked "Is it worthwhile adding a presence control to an amp circuit which has a cut control?" I am still interested in the opinions you guys may have on that subject. I have never heard a Komet nor was I aware of a Komet's circuit. I will do some research and find the schematic to see what it looks like and try to find some audio clips. Thank you for that suggestion.

You certainly can add a presence control as well as a cut control but, as fishy stated, a typical presence control relies on having a negative feedback loop as it acts as a filter on the frequencies injected back into the NFB loop.

A Rocket, or AC30 (being the most common amp off the top of my head that has a cut control) doesn't have any NFB and therefore a conventional presence circuit can't be used in this circuit.

It's difficult to say therefore whether they'd coexist usefully (technically they'll be fine alongside one another) but clearly Komet think both are worthwhile to have.

Paulster, Thank you again. I will continue looking for Komet information. And thank you for teaching me a new word...stroppy...Hmmm,

My Dr Z Stangray has a cut control as well.

Not sure about the interaction in the cut control and prescence on my K60 I will have to play around with it and see what observations I can come up with. It sure is one sweet amp that much I can say. I think Saturday nights gig I had them both in the middle (12:00) position.

hmm...considering that I put a Cut control on my Liverpool...I hope so. I haven't played with it much, but since it was extremely easy to add, I did.
