a 2061x with VVR/PPIMV (haven't decided yet - any experiences?), a custom build from a design of my own (commissioned). a tiny 0.5W-1W amp (also commissioned), and need to hunt down a carpenter for cabinet making - have a WGS V30 and Reaper that i want boxed in 1x12s.
In the interest of full disclosure, I am Animal Factory Amplification.

Been working on a Trainwreck Liverpool going on 8 months now.

Mostly just taking my sweet time; although breaking digits on my right hand at the wrong time (holidays) took a big chunk out of my planned build progress.

The swamp thing amp is going to be pulled apart to refigure the layout and turret board or point to point construction.

Tranny set for Root 666 arrive today so once I have them bolted I can drill for tube sockets and cap can to wire.

I'm finishing up a 2 year build.

It's a Melissa-type (actually 2 Melissa preamps...Ch 1 -EF86 into 12AX7 w/mid-contour between stages and Ch2 -12Ax7 into a Mid-contour circuit into another 12AX7) DC-Drive w/stereo FX loop returned into stereo 6sj7's driving a SE EL34 and KT77 on each stereo side.

I got the idea from all the discussion 2 years ago over on AX84 about how versatile Carl Berger's design was. So I figured I would put 2 of those preamps in one amp. This would allow channel switching with an A/B switch, or the use of 2 different guitars without having to twist knobs.

I made the Poweramp stereo because I've used two amps in stereo or a pedal board into a stereo poweramp since the early 80's. I got used to doing it that way, and would never go back.

The only regret I have is that I wished I would have done it in a head/cabinet instead of a Combo. It's quite heavy. 2x10's in a 5f4 cabinet. W/ 2 x 10" extension cabinets.

Oh well, you live and learn.
It's my first complete build, so there was a steep learning curve I had to deal with. Next one should be a lot easier (and cheaper  ).

yesterday I had to re-tube and bias a hot rod deluxe that had had a beer
poured over dash, what a stink. A SWR with blown driver, a NADY stereo receiver (old) with bad solder join.
Ordered trannies for a fifty watt, yeah.
It takes a bit but the repairs can pay for the next project, its nice to have an
income. But the repairs take up space and time, today was a peavey 30
and a vox wah, tomorrow is a marshal valvestate foot control cable and a
boogie Mii (c?), still have a twin, and a cranky ampeg, a few mic's , foot pedals, icky.

When the trannies arrive I'll bend some mild steel and fab a chassis, the guy
wants a diamond plate steel as the feature of the cab, hard wood. 2 channel,
one drive, a pre and post line out, no verb, no switching, EL34, cathode bias
and he really likes the tone of cathodyne inverter. Still haven't settled on the wood.
And I've got to nail him down on tone controls.
I fab everything I can with every project, I was thinking of getting a small
lathe to turn my own knobs. jeeez....

and I've got a blues jr. to replace the opt in. could be a busy summer.
At least three sets of trannies that will need homes, 25w combos, real old fashioned,
if I can crank a few dozen more repairs, and a few gigs thru the season it'll be good.

4 last year, another one on the drawing board now. Trying to decide whether to go with a 1, 2 or 3 tube reverb for a tweed bassmanish style thing with bias-vary (6G16) trem. Can't make up my mind about the 'verb still. I've seen the d-lite style 1 tube verb version, but I just think I might want to go to 2 tubes (or 3 :-0 !)

Today I have the moment to gut an old wards airline PA amp, hopefully by
this tuesday it'll be out at a gig. I've been liking a split-load inverter lately.
This thing came scrounged with ken rad 6l6G and a 5Z3 rectifier. It'll be all
6sn7 in the pre, a couple diode biased stages, and a 6sl7 split load, no feed back.
The inputs and pre stages are in a small sub-chassis mounted inside the all
metal case, its got an aluminum grill. Cant wait to hear such an old representation
of the trannies and tube type, the amp is cathode biased with a 1.2k resistor.
seems large, but for the 6l6 type is probably ok.

Layout for TW bassman+ R&V V11

Post by tubeswell »

FWIW here is the latest attempt at a layout for the 'thing' I posted earlier - When I drew the layout, I realised that the coupling cap from the reverb recovery DC pair should be about .1uF (not 250pF as shown on the schematic).

So what's holding me back?

Just finished up an 18 Watt Marshall for a friend.

He had made some wiring mistakes and it wouldn't have ever worked the way it was.

He had the B+ wired to the negative end of a filter cap. Not sure why it didn't blow up.

He also missed an underboard jumper and two heater wires were shorting due to the way the pins are.

I think this was a kit, or maybe he sourced his own parts, not sure.
But he had used sockets that were made for a pcb so there were no eyelets on the pins. Made wiring them a pain in the ass.

Once I corrected the errors it fired right up.
I had never played through one of these and it is a crunchy beast!
This one has the normal channel and tremolo channel.
Just volume and tone.
Sounds really good so I may have to build one of these. :D

I have an 18 lite IIb in a 10" combo cab from a recycled Fender practice amp. Still one of my favorite "grab-n-go" amps. I like the 18 so much I built a 1.8 Watt version for home. Just loud enough to annoy the wife but not loud enough to piss her off.

Just started work on a Blues Jr. conversion. Ripped everything out but the PT. Replaced the speaker. Ordered what parts I don't have on hand. Time for a beer, then whip up an eyelet board....

Deric do you have a schematic for the 1.8 watt?

That sounds like the perfect practice amp. :D
