Trainwreck Documentary !

Post by Plexified »

I have been putting toghether information for a Trainwreck Documentary for over ten years now . I had planned on doing this prior to Kens passing and it was tragic enough when he left us . I had spoke to some key friends and we decided it was not time . Since that time and space I feel the time is right to continue with this venture . So if anyone has an interest in participating please let me know . I've been here since Omar started the site and plenty of time since on various sites like the gear page and plexi palace and more often the Metro forum . I will give alot of time to the local players in New Jersey like Ken Dubman and Dave Dipetro and Bernie ,RIP , in the glorious tone we all love . I will do alot of quality sound examples live and have as many of the owners participate as well as legendary builders and people that Ken has touched . I have a web site I am putting together that will be a reference point too . Its all going to be non profit and his brother Scott can direct the proceeds as well as the web site to supervise as it blossoms . So I just wanted to let it out here first since Ken gave his blessings for all of you here to build and learn in the spirit of his being . Thanks in advance for your participation here , as I have learned ALOT and appreciate the respect all have displayed . This is going to be a wonderful journey and I thank everyone in advance ! I look forward to not only displaying all his hard work in an environment that will sound fantastic and show in all its glory Kens concern for the average musician and everything he could do to make us all sound better . And as you already know it happened one person at a time and one component at a time ! David Scott ~ mister.david.scott@gmail.com

I should say , don't be shy , read my posts . You'll find I offer a good deal of assistance as well as insight into the master . Again , I was just one of Kens customers from the begining . One that had his gear serviced and when he offered his own amp , I was like ,"what?" . I can't afford that ! I'm a starving musician and btw , EVERYTHING you serviced for me sounds 10X better . Later , down the road , Bob Speck from Xenon and Bernie from BB were bouncing balls of tone off the walls and who knew? My Plexis sounded as good ! Well in hind sight (and I am a hind ) what did I know . It was a $ sign . And as time passed , yep a $ sign . Who knows where all the amps are that he serviced . I know he used Mallory power supply caps and alot of red paint on the bolts and solder joints . :shock: But , If I could trace the where abouts , I would be working backwards . Mallory TC110 X 4 on the 4 external electrolytic caps on the outside of a Marshall 100w chassis is a total Ken signiture , + the red paint :lol: , Geez louise . Joe Taylor had a 100 watt Super Trem that Ken serviced with German El-34's with the whole basket tube retainers on the output tubes was amazing . How do I know ? I brought Joe home to audition the head to buy . I Played it through a stock basketweave with 25's AND a Ken signiture Ampeg V-4 with 25's(Celestion pre Rola OO3 cones ) and Joe said no , No , NO MAN . I should have refrained from the VH *Dirty Movies* rythem . DOOHHHH! Shame on me . I drove Joe home . Man that still hurts . Perhaps one of the best Plexi's I have ever heard . That includes the live sound George Lynch had at the Radio City Music Hall gig for Under Lock and Key . Major sigh ; ( David Scott

Will you please post any sound clips that you can find of Inger. Also if you can locate the Fender Deluxe Reverb that used to live in Altantic City that Ken tweaked the hell out of, please please post any sound clpis that you can get ahold of. I remember the band sounding like complete garbage musically, but there was the best sounding amp up on stage...I talked with the guitar player and he told me that KF had tweaked it, and showed me the writing Ken left on the outside of the chassis :) I asked him what Ken had done to the amp and he said that Ken "enriched the sound and maybe added a little gain too". I don't think that he even knew. I hope that the documentary comes together well.

WOW , what an immediate response . I was supprisingly overwhelmed by the response on such an announcement . Glen was the first to reply and his contributions are remarkable . Glen probably wasn't aware of how moved I was and in this light I will share my response as well as elaborate on what I would like to accomplish ,here is the mail I sent back ;

GOOD DAY !

Hi Glen , thanks so much for your kind words . I'm sure we've been rubbin elbows on the net for some time now . I've always enjoyed your music and commentary . A great example of what makes the net tick . As this project blossoms I would certainly like to include you in the project . Your love for Ken and his influence is an example of how he affected peoples lives. . I'm the same way . He afforded a service to the music community that was so personalized and uplifting that it beams in comparison to what is going on in the world today . I'm going to aspire to have all those that he touched tell the story . I'm going to start with the Amp Garage . As I had mentioned , he was so cool to see this site exist . And yet he never owned a computer ! But that kind of bad ass is Ken . But now , that paradox will beam back . From the net its going to shine the light on a wonderful man and his lifes work . Once you start to think of all the lives he has touched with the universal healing of music you realize quickly he is still with us .

Thank you Glen , David Scott

Well Glen may not have realized , I was pretty emotional in responding , more so than I can describe .

The project is about everyone Ken has touched . He was an advodcate of us musicians . It was in his heart to see that he gave back in every chance he had . Every musician was a chance for him to pour his heart that was inspired by musicians . The music he loved , the soundtrack of his life . He was such a warm heart that if you ever had the chance to talk with him it was if he didn't want to let you off the phone . His troubleshooting skills afforded him the opportunity to show the average musician he would troubleshoot your amp , while you were still haning around and then pick your brain to see what it was you wanted to accomplish . While you were waiting he would tune the amplifier . It didn't matter if it was a bass amp or a keyboard amp or PA system . He was so appreciative of what he was given by the spirit of music that it was his honor to do it while you were in the room and assure that the piece you brought in would assure that when you left you were not only a new friend but a keeper of the flame . Guys like me were refered to him by word of mouth . Paul Deceasare was the artist endorsment liason at the Kramer Factory in which I had worked . Paul was so free in his spirit and his tone was unbelieveable . He would always say , just get a marshall and turn it up on 10 . Well skills like Pauls were not pickins on a tree , you had to work real hard to find that . And Paul was free . He shared a fantastic friiedship with Ken and was a great example of sharing Kens legendary results .

The challenge I have is finding those Ken touched and sharing the story . It happens in many ways . Alot of folks have shared the common feeling of how can I help . Well that is what this project is all about. I want the story to tell itself . That happens when you share your experiences or your desires to have something projected on the screen . This project is going to be very different from many documentatires you have ever seen . This one is the *light* shining back . Maybe you know someone that owns a wreck or perhaps you have an experience that you want to share . That is the type of communication I would like to develop . This board is a testimony of just that . Great people inspired by a person that was just trying to do some good in this world . Alot of things are happening these days that are hard to imagine , by participating we can show the world how a community , united with inspiration can accomplish more than any one man can imagine . The web site is going to be a sound board . If you have an idea or a particular direction you would like to be covered it is a place where you can do it . Everyone can be involved . For instance , if you heard a player or person that had an experience , contact me . We will , together find the details and let the stoy telll itself . I'm the guy thats going to edit and put the project together , but all along the ride the website will chronicle this entire project . Its a living breathing website . Upload pictures , clips , commentary and whatever you find to be relevant in regards to how Ken moved you . All along the way I inspire to provide all the music clips , stories and documentation that is missing in Kens story . Such a warm soul that wanted nothing but to give back the inspiration that inspired him . In film making this has never been done before . For another example ; Joe musician contacts me and tells a story , we then investigate the process , extract all the facts do interviews and sound clips and we add it to the website . The film will be a direct reflection of that . So lets say Bob Speck buys a wreck and plays all around town with it , we find Bob , talk with him and further the story . Ken has already wrote his own brief story , but it never ended . We can shine back as I see it and for the first time show that a story can be told from around the world by the people he influenced . So many steps through this journey and as I had said earlier , Ken was warm in his ways to acknowledge this site that Omar started . He gave his blessing to experiment and share the excitement in his designs . For a personal journey I would imagine . But to think he never owned a computer is th paradox , that very well means , I feel can provide the reflection of a warm soul that really changed the way things were done and in alot of ways fortifies the old school gentlemans handshake .

Anyone can shoot some footage , provide some artwork or for that matter name the film . Its a soundboard . Living and breathing . Details to follow . David
