Hi everybody,
Does anybody know if Howard Dumble ever used fiberglass circuit boards,
perhaps even with etched traces?
And if yes, why?
Have a nice week.

Re: fiberglass boards
Well the later Dumble Overdrive Specials used PCB for relay boards, FET board and all of his power supply boards. THere were even a few Overdrive specials that the mainboard was a PCB.ampcrack wrote:Hi everybody,

I have seen a few SSS pictures and they looked to be totally PCB based with fly wires for connection to the tube sockets. Brandon could answer that one better.
Why... who knows ..... because he could

Re: fiberglass boards
Somehow I cannot see this inherent aversion against regular PCBs.....
If one expects a lot of tweaking and change of components, turrets and eyelets are certainly better, as regular PCBs doesn't particularly like frequent resoldering. But for straight line copying of a given design, PCBs should be plenty strong. A typical board for a Dumble or wreck with 4-5 supports pr. long side should be plenty.
Some of the old fiber boards are really not very strong,
- garolite is a totally different story, though.....

Re: fiberglass boards
I was surprised when I looked inside my Z28 - typical turret construction, but the board was only 1/16" thick like a PCB. I've always used the 1/8" garolite for my builds.
Re: fiberglass boards
From #094 ( or earlier) and onward, the Relay and FET boards were PC boards. Amps with the precision power supply (#170s onward?) had six (or seven if HRM) PC boards and only one eyelet board.
