Something happened yesterday.

The forum was crashed and when I used another link from Google to try to access the forum I got nailed by three or four Trojan viruses!

I use Avast AV but something slipped by.
I spent most of yesterday cleaning out my system.

That is bad, sorry you had that trouble. I just googled in and used the jump to on the right hand bottom of the screen to get around since the index wasn't working.

Code: Select all

I spent most of yesterday cleaning out my system.

Same here. Not a fun way to spend the day. :(

My worry ifs for those who don't have some spiff software to do it all for them. Maybe the admins could put up a post with some links to methods for removal?
I used regrun but it is a deep interface and may not be the easiest fix.
What did you gentlemen use?

regrun is here btw.

Free for 30 days but I have no previous experience with them. I can only report that my system checks out clean now.

It appears my AV software was out of date too so hopefully in this day and age most of the forum users did not get affected...or infected as it were.
I wonder if the board was hacked or what?

I use Avast which I thought caught several. Let's see there was Win32 Trojan gen something. Mural something, and some other one.

I couldn't believe it when the virus alarm started going off! :x

So did this place get hacked or what? I don't see how it was just a forum crash if several of us got infected when trying to logon.

But when I did a boot up scan some were still there.

I ran Spybot Search & Destroy and it caught a couple.

I also have Windows Defender installed, I should do a scan with that and see if it turns up anything. I remember one time a couple years ago, that was the only program that would get rid a bug I had.

My C drive is huge so it took about two hours to scan it because I had it scan the archives too.

You want to be sure to stop the System Restore service too because if that gets infected it will just keep getting into the system.
Also temporary internet files and temp files.

There was also a .dll file that was put in my System 32 file.

It was call digeste.dll Be sure to delete that.

When I checked the properties on it it had some Russian guys name.
So away it went.

I think I have everything gone now.

That was very bad of some Russian to hack us with that crap.

I forgot to mention, as a side effect of all this, my Windows XP Pro needed to be re-activated.
That was out of left field and I have no explanation for that one! :?

It said my configuration had changed too much and that I needed to activate it.
