the white wire on v1 pin2 should go to the center post on your volume pot..also is your input jack grounded?

it is hard to see, but yes the white wire from pin 2 V1 is going to the center post on the volume pot. the input jack is grounded to the chassis via the star washer, right? thanks for checking. the amp is still having problems with low volume and oscillation and hum. my next day off i will be going through the entire thing one component at a time.

Re: new express power up problem/question
SUCCESS!!
Finally got my first express up and running! I will name it Amy after my wife. It sounds awesome (and frickin loud). Thanks again for everyone's advice and patience helping me through some painful newb qustions. I tried it out with both 6v6's and EL34's and I have to say the 34's are better IMO. My problem, as I suspected all along, was the impedance switch. I just took it out and wired up three separate speaker jacks for 4/8/16 with the NFB on the 8 ohm jack. It doesn't break up quite as smoothly at higher gain settings as the glen kuykendall clips, but with different tubes and maybe some bias adjustment I can get close. The oscillation and hum have pretty much disappeared which is very cool. Next up, cabinet... will post completed pics when done. Then maybe a liverpool. Can't get enough TW!

Glad you got your amp going.
I hate those Lorlin switches I use the easier to wire three stop four pin switches. I know others have no problem wiring those Lorlin switches but I do.

Good work. Its a great feeling to get an amp working, especially the first.
You might want to consider the NKK switch which is called out in the BOM.
It is sturdy, and straight forward to wire.
