rocket layout

Post by zimm »

Hi all, I have been thinking of trying a Rocket build, already did an HRM dumble styled amp thanks to the this great resource. I have a question regarding layout of the rocket chassis. I did some searches and found this:

Are these layout values (spacing) correct. Im looking to drill my own chassis. Thanks!

The front and back panels are correct.
The tube socket locations are correct.
The top panels are approximate are approximate for the transformers IMO.
I would make sure you have the transformers/choke, measure them and lay them out first before you begin drilling/cutting to minimize any secondary operations.
Also there are holes missing for ground lugs, power cathode resistor, etc...
You should figure that into your layout so as not to have to drill additional holes after you've already assembled a bunch of components to the chassis.

Good luck.

Zimm,

You can go here and find a actual size template I drew up for the Rocket trannies and choke locations.

I used it and I believe Greg used it, no problems.

Have a look.

Zimm,
Gary is correct, I did use his drill pattern and it was dead nuts perfect. Gary ROCKs...

Also if you take the time to sand the holes where the wires pass through you won't need grommets.

I guess the transformers are spec'd on the layout. Where are people getting them from (Toneslut, Heyboer directly)? I looks as if there was a group purchase a while back, is there a regular source now? Sorry, following the threads makes it a little confusing as to where people are getting iron for the Rocket. Thanks.

I got mine from Allyn but I am not sure he stocks them. Heyboer is what he sent me. If its from Allyn you know its the good stuff.

I got my PT from RJGuitars
OT from AES
choke from Partsexpress.com

At the time I was looking no one had the tranny set for me.

Hey Gary, I used your layout last night and it worked well. Got the trannies, choke, and preamp board installed. Thanks!

You can go to Toneslut (moose), RJGuitar, Allyn, or anyone else that is selling them.

Trannies you need for Rocket are:
Heyboer HTS-9144 PT and HTS-8093-1 OT
Hammond 158L choke from partsexpress.com

I used a new tranny from RJ 245-0-245/6.3/5v for my PT
the Dynaco A470-S from Triode Electronics OT
Hammond 158L from Partsexpress.com for choke

From all the discussions I am not sure what is correct. Use the Rocket files as your source.
