Ok, cool!

Speaking of the PAB function, there's a cool little trick you can do but it's fairly unusable. If you grab the Rock/Jazz toggle and switch it so that it makes no connection in either mode, you'll hear PAB for that instant. The OD150W takes advantage of this and uses a 3-way Rock/Jazz switch with PAB in the middle!

Last night I waas stone cold sober listening to this, and got hooked.
I am not a jazz fan, don't really like free form playing much at all. It always smells like "noodling" to my taste.

But I do enjoy my old Zappa.
Now I have had a couple or four fine winter homebrews, and it seems the addiction to the clean/dirty tone is not gong to go away.

Here's the link, as I posted elsewhere:

Hi,

many of the original ODS 100 Watt do have such a "three position" Rock/Jazz Switch with the PB engaged in the middle too (#075, #123 e.g.). That's the reason why on some ODS the PAB on/off switch on the back to switch the relay by hand is not connected because it is if no special use as you can engage the PB by hand on the front panel by using the rock/jazz switch. The ODS 150W is indeed unique in many ways but not in this one.

Cheers

Mystery solved Re the #124 photos, then? It has NC on one side of the PAB slide switch.

Perhaps...if #124 really has a 3 position switch (does anyone know?).

On my Fender/Dumble conversion, I did not have room on the chassis for a manual switch to the PAB so I used a 3 position switch on the J/R.

By the way:

1. The ODS 150W has the "three position" rock/jazz switch AND a functional pedal/manual switch on the back for PB.

2. Not all of the original ODS with a "tree position" rock/jazz switch have a label for the "PB" position (like ODS 150 W), so you can't identify some of these amps on pictures.

3. The earliest amp I know of with such a "three position" rock/jazz switch is #075, an amp with many "firsts" anyway.
Does someone know of a "three position" amp with a lower series #?

Greetings

Very late for this party... I just discovered this thread and saw the Lerche video.

UltraHookedOnPhonix - did you ever here back from Peter regarding serial number and power tubes? I think it's the coolest sounding amp! I am frustrated that I can not dial in that tone with my 80's non-HRM. I can get in the general ballpark, but not close enough (mine is high-plate and Gil suggested at was probably a low plate). :x
"Let's face it, the non HRMs are easier to play, there, I've said it." - Gil Ayan... AND HE"S IN GOOD COMPANY!

From the sweetness of the cleans I'd say it a nonHRM with 100k plates for clean and 100k for OD with internal trimmer set high. It has that EJ fuzztone on inbetween and neck settings. I'd imagine with humbucker neck alone it would splatter like a good fuzzpedal. I built a 100watt 100k nonHRM combo for a studio guy and this video reminded me of that amp. The Eminence beta 12A LFA (extended low freQ) works well with in these combos.
For heavymetal types the older Eminence beta 12 150watt (green label) sound killer in a ported dumble box. Having tried a pair of their R,W,B in 100k and 220k combos I find that speaker to be a tone sucker killing bloom and sustain. Maybe I got a dud pair? but I now refuse to use them in D builds.

I've run into this issue before in a Non HRM where the OD sounds little fuzzy.. as well as a kind of loose splaty bottom.....kind of un-focused....Finding the perfect Overdrive AX tube will in my opinion help with some of these issues that were brought up..some of the higher gain newer tubes and if you find the right Chinese re branded ones work surprisingly well to help tighten the tone a bit!! Still sounds good though

My (ex-) Dumble # 94 has a 3-way switch too! Gregor
