Natchanis Chassis Amp inside and out
The wife bought me a chassis from Natchanis... For Christmas.. I had a Music Man Power and a 135 w Super Twin OPT... Laying around..So I threw it together..My cabinet guy built the cab and I tolexed it..I have some black leather corners soaking I think I'll use instead of the silver corners..
The amp currently has Solvtek 5881's GT.. JJ Preamp and EH in the Pi..Waiting on the footswitch jack..
Gotta take some gut shots...Amps going in my stable... Enjoy

Re: Natchanis Chassis Amp inside and out
How did you mount it? Did you ad any support for those big trannies?
Re: Natchanis Chassis Amp inside and out
The big problem with Natchanis chassis are when he designed the lip to mount the chassis mounting bolts he didn't make it wide enough to support the chassis...Maybe with regular iron it would have been fine..I was afraid it would warp the lip if it took a fall...My solution was to run 2 wooden strips down the side that the chassis sits on...The amp slides right in and butts up against the aluminum spacers in the front and 2 screws in the back holds it in place..
It does make it much easier to take out of the cabinet especially w/the bigger iron... If you space it right the amp slides right out with little effort and looks cleaner with no bolts showing on the top...
I wouldn't do a production model this way.. Since I built the amp for myself and don't plan to sell it should be fine...

What circuit did you follow Tony?
Is this an HRM amp?

Re: Natchanis Chassis Amp inside and out
Non HRM w Skyliner... 220/150 plates w/5uf caps all around...I like a clean clean channel.... Pi/presence is standard 80's era.....The value NFB resistor I settled on was a 1K... MM Iron 200- 130 original power got about 716 on the Plates... V1 210.. V2... 216..The fet side is a little different.. It boosts the signal a bit and adds more top and a bit more mids..Works good in the clean channel but adds a little more noise in the OD.. So not sure I am going to keep it in... Have to play it out to see if it's tolerable..I am waiting on the RD plate resistors but had some old carbon films that were in an early Marshall I had laying around.. Sounds pretty good now so I might just leave it in pretty smooth...I used a 500 pf treble bleed on the Od side to tame it a bit... I'll post some pics later when I get it out of the box..

Looks nice!

Looks wonderful! and like the chassis bracket approach. It gives it a cleaner outside look.

Re: Natchanis Chassis Amp inside and out
That is one of the things I have always used in my amps. A set of rails that allows the chassis to drop 1/4" when the screws are removed. Then I can simply slide it out. espcially nice when working on a combo amp.BobW wrote:Looks wonderful! and like the chassis bracket approach. It gives it a cleaner outside look.
I have worked on several Ceriatones and they are a total PITA with respect to getting the chassis in and out. Especially the ones mounted in the US made cabinets. Nik tends to like to not countersink screws and the last one I worked on took two of us to pry it out of the cabinet.

Re: Natchanis Chassis Amp inside and out
Gary, your amps always look great too, just never noticed the mounting method. Wish I would have built my cab the same way. Thanks! Now there's a reason to build another project.
Re: Natchanis Chassis Amp inside and out
Here are a few more pics.. As well as the mounting rails.. I've had this thing out of the cab several times and she slides right out.. Thanks everyone for the compliments..
