6550 in Express
Have you tried them? What did you think? Thought about getting a pair to see if I like it. What would be a good bias voltage?
I've got blisters on my fingers!
Re: 6550 in Express
I prefer the Sovtek 6L6 in my express and changed the NFB resistor to 68k (I used 56K) to clean it up not as much high gain.
I need to get some different tone caps and try .033 instead of the .047 and .01 caps.

Re: 6550 in Express
YMMV, but to me an amp w/6550s driven into clipping does not sound very good. The 6550 is a great tube and is quite linear. It doesn't seem to have much compression before clipping. It makes a good bass (SVT) or organ (Leslie) amplifier. Maybe if it was wired in triode mode you could get a softer distortion characteristic.
Re: 6550 in Express
I'd be more interested in a tube that starts with KT...any of them.
Re: 6550 in Express
How about a Dirty Little Monster with a single 6550 or KT-88...that is what I want!
Re: 6550 in Express
Start a group build project. I haven't seen a schema of the DLM yet. I, too, would dig developing one.dayn wrote:How about a Dirty Little Monster with a single 6550 or KT-88...that is what I want!
Have you played/heard one?
Re: 6550 in Express
Ditto on the group Dirty Little Monster build.
