Received the new Dumble Book (Jesse Schwarz)

Post by GregorHIlden »

Hi Folks, I've got the Jesse Schwarz Dumble Book this morning in the post. It came from a Luxemburg Adress (so don't worry about the Luxemburg Bank account..).
I had contact to one of the authors before, I gave him a lot of photos for free, made an info-text to my No. 94 Overdrive Special. And never heard nothing again for 10 months. So when I saw the add for the book. I wrote to the man where I had contact and asked him for a promo copy because of my work and expenses for the photographer. It tooks a couple of weeks and some more e-mails - but I got the book now. Thanks to M. (and I have to apologize for getting a little bit rude because I got nothing first and did not expect something anymore...). Thanks to "Jesse" who send me the book.

First of all I was sceptical enough since I saw the ad with Luxemburg Account, 200,- Dollar price tag, kind of obscure.... But when I got the book today I was really impressed! The Author (or the Authors) did a great job on this book!
I can imagine how much work it was to edit this book, because I was working as an editor for a music magzine a long time and I know something about print-products. And I have to say on these 330 Pages they have not only compilied all the interesting Interviews with H.D. (including a couple of german magazine Interviews with original and english translation!) but put it in order chronology with rare photos included, detail photos of amps and parts (but no schematics, no close up shots from electronic stuff) and interesting comments from Dumble-Owners, players and collectors and (ex)Dumble-Fellows.
A big part of the book is photo series of amps - from silverface to blackface period. Every amp gets 2 Pages with pictures and comments (mostly from the owners or pre-owners). The Pictures are sharp and professional, the printing quality of the book is excellent!
So, the Dumble Hardliner Collectors will probably know already about a lot of the pictures and Interviews. But I think there could be a couple of things new and interesting for them too.
For a fan like me who is not THAT deep into it, the most of the pictures and text are completely new (shure I did a lot of research on the www before so I'm not a newbie....) - and it is great to have that all in a professional bound hardcover book.
Since the price on the website has been reduced to 149,- I could really recommend the book to all Fans and Owners. They did a good work - and this was without doubt a lot of work!!

I found the book to contain a lot of spelling errors and even word omissions. The captions are very bland and you'll find yourself reading things like, "this amps sound absolutely fantastic" over and over again. However, the production value is great and what I really liked where the two interviews with Alexander that were previously given out in a German magazine.
All in all, little new information (ignoring the technical aspect) was given but the pictures are nice.

A coffee table book?
Ha Ha! Yes, you might say that! Albeit with thick glossy papers so that if you do spill your coffee on it, it will in all likelyhood run off!

UL & edible liquid approved!

Also, it's quite heavy. May prove useful in defensive situations. A swift strike to the head of your opponent will almost certainly lead to a coma for an extended period.

I find it rather sad, or perhaps pathetic, that you helped that author with a lot of your valuable contributions for free, while he did not even bother to send you a free copy of a book when it once got published, but you rather had almost to beg for one, so he finally, after so much of your effort showed some ¨mercy¨ and obliged - and that you are now actually pushing that $200 (!!!) publication, full of errors and rather useless for the folks on this forum.

I dunno, but there is something sad about that whole affair, or perhaps pathetic.

Hello Sven, I don't wanna push the book and I have not read it complete, so I can't say nothing about errors and mistakes in the book.

I saw that you discussed the appearance of this book before but nobody had seen this at this time. They was no posting anymore. And my thought was to give just a little idea to you was the the book is all about.

Sorry, I did not know that some forum members had a closer look to the book already since there was no more comments here.

All the best Gregor

I was just kidding. Basically, I was sorry to see that the author did not treat you better, while you are a nice fellow. Hey, did you once write that you shall make pictures of your original Dumble that you sold, available here on this forum? Ever got that done? No?

Never mind the book, how are your records and public appearances doing?

Sven, if you look in the Files section there is a thread of Gregors former amp described in the -Inside LC's ODS thread, of which Funk stated that it never was, there is only the the name inscribed on the inside. The pics are clear and there has been some discussion on some of the features the amp has.
