This really comes down to a basic circuit design question, but...
The 100k trimmer for the non-HRM OD section. I never hear of it being turned up over about 35k to ground at the wiper, with 25-30k being more the norm in my build at least. That leaves a minimum of 65k between Pin 7 and the 220k series resistor ahead of it the trimmer.
That trimmer gets a little twitchy, and there is some fine-tuning to be had there. When I get in the ballpark of ideal settings, I can hear differences of +-1k adjustment. Would there be any drawback to using a 50k trimmer instead, and just up the series resistor to compensate?

Just up the 220K to 270K and use a 50K and you should be set.greiswig wrote:This really comes down to a basic circuit design question, but...

You could also float the trimmer on say a 10K resistor and use a 25K trimmer and then come up with 285K or so on the top side. This would give you even finer resolution for tweaking.

Re: OD trimmer question
I guarantee that the folks at the bar you're playing at can't tell the difference between 25K and 36K, they just want you to turn it down so that they can pick up the chick they were talking to between sets-

More likely the one I was talking to.Funkalicousgroove wrote:...they just want you to turn it down so that they can pick up the chick they were talking to between sets-
Yeah, I know, nuance is lost on most listeners. I'm the one I am trying to please for this level, not them. If a few of them hear it and appreciate it, that's icing on the cake. Besides, with my luck you, Henry, Scott, or somebody from the list will show up at a gig, walk up to me between sets and say "Hey, I bet that'd sound better if you'd lower your OD trimmer by a few kilohms."

Re: OD trimmer question
I get it, I'm just being cynical and jaded!! You have my word that I will never tell you to turn your trimmer down!
If it helps at all, the Dumbles I've been in were all set 25K or less, Skyline with standard overdrive was set at 18k, I bumped it to 36 for the owner and he liked it much better, oh and it was an 80k trimmer-

Saturday I was setting up for a solo gig, just me, my guitar and backing tracks. I tuned up and turned on the PA, hit one chord and a guy at the bar screams "Shut the FUCK up we're talking here"Funkalicousgroove wrote:they just want you to turn it down so that they can pick up the chick they were talking to between sets-
I DIDN'T turn down.
