Jensen Tornado Neo?
Anyone tried this one? If you compare the published response curves, this one looks to be tonally similar to the G12-65, although it has less extreme HF response. I've seen comments about other Neodymium speakers for Dumbles, but not this one.

Re: Jensen Tornado Neo?
it's really bright! and kinda lacks in low end. It got much better after I broke it in, but all in all I was not super impressed with it and a Bludo-Drive. Sounds WONDERFUL in a twin though-
Try the Mod 12-110, super smooth sounding, and pretty affordable.

Thanks, Funk, but I've got heavy speakers: a G12-65 and an older EVM-12L. Looking to possibly make a lightweight cabinet with a Neo speaker in it, but trying to find something with the clean and sheen of the EV but a little bit of the Celestion's character in overdrive, and light.
May be wishful thinking...

Re: Jensen Tornado Neo?
the Blackbird is more EVish, and substantially lighter, but kinda spendy

That's a surprise, given the published curves! Based on those, I would have guessed it would be substantially darker sounding than the G12-65. When I compare the EV to the 12-65, I hear more high mids in the Celestion, and a smoother overall pattern plus more high-end content in the EV.Funkalicousgroove wrote:the Blackbird is more EVish, and substantially lighter, but kinda spendy
And if I read you right, the Blackbird is closer to the EV than to the Celestion? Interesting. It's AlNiCo, but only about 7 pounds as compared to 12 for the G12-65.

The only Neo speaker I would consider using in a D-Style amp is the Tonker light.. A touch on the bright side when your playing at home.. However not to bad in a band setting in a club..JMHO!

I love the original neo's and the tornados sound even better - they have huge low end and clear but not harsh high end. I've used and loved them with fenders, voxes, and d style amps. John Mayer uses them - live at least. I dont generaly dislike his tone. My opinion only, YMMV.
