Dumble clean only speaker recommendation
Hey, y'all, I've got a guy who wants 100 watts of big and clean for his jazz/fusion style. So I'm thinking Dumble clean with skyline stack and the usual switches.
It's to be a head with a 2x12 cab. Do y'all think the WGS ET65 would be a good speaker for that? Or would some of y'all have a better suggestion?

Yo, Funk,
Great suggestion. Unfortunately, I didn't price the build to cover those!
Does anyone know if Andy uses RWB for the Clean Machine? I really couldn't tell from the website.

Re: Dumble clean only speaker recommendation
Do you think that the configuration will be clean enough for jazz?
The only reason I ask is because at least on my 2 x 6L6 amp, it tends to get a bit distorted at volume on the clean channel.
Do you plan on totally leaving out the OD channel?
Or have two gain stages or cathode follower instead?

Eminence Delta pro is sort of a cheap man's EV.. Built several combos using the speaker not bad..

I agree on the EV but if you can't do that I wouldn't go to a RWB. They're kinda dull on top imo. I actually like Celestion G12H30 Anniversaries clean (never tried the Heritage version) but not in a 2x12 for a 100W amp.
How much more are used EVs?
FWIW, I hear the low plates do slightly better cleans but maybe that's just the opinions of a few that I've read.

Early brewers were primarily women, mostly because it was deemed a woman's job. Mesopotamian men, of some 3,800 years ago, were obviously complete assclowns and had yet to realize the pleasure of brewing beer.

I've got an old JBL G-125 8 ohm that has that big clean sound I use with my D'Lite. Of course the speaker handles 150 watts or more. It's right in there with the EV for that type of tone, so you might try finding one of those.
Big ass heavy magnet, though...speaker weighs in at 17 lbs, just like the EV. Anyway, just a thought.

Maybe get a bit more input from him....whose tone does he consider something he might want to cop? Is the 2x12 cab weight an issue (2 EV12L cabs are heavy!)?rfgordon wrote:Hey, y'all, I've got a guy who wants 100 watts of big and clean for his jazz/fusion style. Within the WGS line, since you mentioned cost, the ET65 would be the natural choice for Robben tone, while the British lead would be a bit more focused and tighter tone.....a slightly smoother version of the CL80. That may be more along the lines of what he is looking for.
Within the Eminence line, the RWB or the Delta Pro may work well, again depending on expectations. In the end, the ultimate loud and clean speaker will probably still be the EV12L, but there are alternatives if you can get more input from the end user.

You can't beat 2 Thieles loaded w/ EVM 12L's. Just pay the extra $$ for the EVMs, you will be glad you did.

Funk,
Thanks a bunch for the Jensen tip. Niell at CEDist has been after me to try some Jensens, so I might just try these.
