If some buyer is willing to pay $38,000 today for ODS #xyx, todays "fair price" for ODS # xyz is $ 38,000.

Conclusion 2:

As you see, this buyer got ODS #xyz exactly for todays "fair price" ($ 38,000).

Conclusion 3:

As you see, your statement, that "you can barely can get a Dumble for a fair price" is wrong and contradictional to your late dads valid statement, that "something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it".
