http://www.kometamps.com/constellation.html

looks like it's up at the moment.

no schematic there tho!

6SN7 in one channel, guessing cascade 12AX7 stages in the other channel, cathode-biased 4xEL84 output stage for 33W, no NFB and no tone controls other than the post-PI "cut".

I'm not sure I want to built an exact clone, but I would really like to see how this amp works and maybe build something similar.

Why? I have heard and played a Constellation a number of times. Not impressed. I would rather have a AC-30 or better yet a Rocket. I played a Rocket clone a couple weeks ago and that thing was really impressive. better cleans, better bass, great distortion. Plus you can buy a Constellation you can't just buy a Rocket.

Hi Guy's,
I've said this before I'll say it again get ahold of a guy named Bill Holter,He owns a music store I belive in Maryland, anyway a year or so ago he offered a DVD, all el-84 amps ,there was a liverpool,anAC-30/4,conny......the whole bit!!!!!!

I was amazed at how much better the AC-30/4 was than anything there!!!!!
any guitar sounded amazing!!!
Thanks!!!

Oh yes you can buy a Rocket if one ever comes up used or if you have the crisp.

Go to www.trainwreck.com and read about the clone angle

Finally had a chance to see  and play a connie. The amp sounded good through my G12-65's but, not so good with H30's. The amp I played had only 50 or so hours on it and it's been through 2 sets of tubes and ready for another set. The build construction is pretty good but, not quite on par with the usual outstanding Komet job. There are a number of things I would change.

1. Get rid of the footswitch...it has DC heater votage/current in the cable since it uses DC heater voltage to power the relay.
2. Parallel the Octal tube with a Noval so as the non-microphonic octal pre's become extinct, you can still run the amp. A 12AU7 is my choice. oh, one tube at a time!
3. Put a damn clamp on the DC heater circuit cap. Glueing one to the chassis in a $3200.00 amp is unexceptable. Don't bother coming back with Ken glued his caps, this is one cap standing up in the chassis requiring one $1.00 clamp.
4. Higher quality output imp. selectors.

Don't get me wrong, I like the amp but, it can be better. Maybe Komet will fix those problems when they come out with a new revision that was mentioned previously. The cabinet is very good looking and the chassis is made if .125" stock. The one place that I was not happy with is the choice of trannys. I'm not sure of the manufacturer but, they look like they were made by a small firm called "Handwound transformers" I'm told. After less than 2 years they were covered with rust. Very little varnish was used in the laminations and they will prematurely fail.

The amp is running on low voltage and the OT imp. is a little more than a standard Vox AC30 which this amp is designed after.

Probably one of the reasons people want to clone them, because their isn't any Rockets out there..
And the clone angle.. i guess it depends on who is doing the cloning. The Komets are not built by Ken either.
