Re: My first amp (express) build...
I just finished wiring the power board, which means I'm done. Well not quite yet. Must find some shielding cable to wire V1 tube socket.

Can't wait to start up this baby... but I will have to wait a while.

Re: My first amp (express) build...
For the input shielding wire I cut the 1/4 inch plug off one of my old gray radio shack guitar cords I hadn't use in probably ten years and used a section of that. It has shielding with a thick center wire. I put shrink tubing the end that goes to V1 lug #7 to cover up the shielding. The shielding is grounded at the input jack on the left lug and the audio center wire goes to the right lug. The 1M resister goes from right lug to the left lug and back into the center lug.

That's an idea.
If I will not find my wire soon enough, I'll just use an old guitar cable.
thanks

Re: My first amp (express) build...
FWIW they still hand-make the 300Bs a few factories in Europe - this one is in one of the former Tesla factories in Prague employing a handful of tube-making artisansM Fowler wrote:Those 300B tubes have intrigued me since I first saw an amp in this guy's trunk of his classic hot rod at a car show and the tubes were lite up and music pumping, nice!
My Ipod and Zen have since replaced my stereo; however. The records are sitting waiting for me to convert them all to CDs on my USB port turn table and Audicity? soft ware. Good thing winters are long in Minnesota and I don't have a gig I can build amps and record my favorite vinyl to CD.

They ain't cheap either

They are directly heated and require off-beat sockets, and I don't know how they would go in a geetar amp.
Re: My first amp (express) build...
Tubeswell
I noticed while I was tube searching that they make the 300B which makes sense since you can buy kits to build these amps.

Re: My first amp (express) build...
Update:
I took my amp to a tech today and we started it up.
We found only one mistake... a little solder leaked into the V1 pin... it took 5min to solve that problem.
Overall I was surprised how quite was the amp. It seems it's worth-while to be careful and neat with wiring.
The sound was just like it should be... big and dangerous!!
That's a rock amp to its bone.

Re: My first amp (express) build...
Yes that is one nice looking cab.
Looks to be oak with maple front valance? You need to have him make a wood face plate as well to really get that TW good looks.

Yes it's oak with flame maple front. I'm not sure about wooden face plate, I somehow never liked a wooden one. Maybe this plexi feel is not that great but I like it, I think I'll stay with it.
Re: My first amp (express) build...
I broke my ceriatone faceplate on my express so I have no choice but to go with a nice wooden faceplate.
I use the ceriatone plate as my template.

Looks cool.
Hope she sounds thatway too.
I've started a second Express build, again no kit just bought parts available nearby.

Re: My first amp (express) build...
To me this amp sounds huge. I never played let say Marshally type amp before. I'm a clean amp+pedals kind of guy but this amp may change all that.
BTW I named her Enja after my daughters.
