Re: New '89 Express video, something different...
Thanks folks.
By the way I also recently uploaded 6 other songs to my Youtube account. They are some live outdoor concert stuff I did back when we were only 18-21 years old. I'm using a Marshall 50 full stack with two heads. We are talking 1981, many a year ago! My Les Paul sounded really good through that setup.

(On a side note I saw this exact same Marshall 50 show up on ebay about 3-4 years ago but missed my chance, and just learned that it went through ebay within the "last year". Anyone with Marshall 50 #S/A 5297A? It's easy to spot, with a fan in the side and a factory rotary ohms selector. Let me know if you ever run across it. I'd like to buy it back or work some sort of deal!)

I have Centralabs in both my original and Historic LP. Most old LPs as far as I know have these pots stock.
Re: New '89 Express video, something different...
one of my favorite songs on the CD..

Thanks Glen! I thought you used something newer with a different taper. Keep up the great stuff!

I wish I could fine a decent taper in a new 500k, but no such luck. The ones I've tried are better than the new stock Gibson ones, but still fall quite short at really coming on as smooth as the old ones. It seems these days you can find decent tapers in 250s all day long, but it's the 500ks that definately still fall into "they don't make 'em like the used too" category.84k wrote:Thanks Glen! I need to put some different pots in that Gretsch at some point. To get a clean tone it's like barely cracked on they come on so quick. I did rewire the Gretsch with opposite polarities on both pots (as in the input and outputs lugs are wire backwards compared to stock, it seems to help the clarity) plus I put bright caps on all three pots. No the pots don't turn backwards, I just came in to each pots on the opposite terminal from stock, with that it didn't muddy up as much and didn't need as big a bright cap that way but it still needed them. I also did a couple other changes. Stock that guitar was total mud when turned down and only worked on 10. Interestingly I don't need to use bright caps in my LPs or other guitars, I guess the pickups match the pots impedances better and more naturaly.
Thanks!
