What Dumble played SRV?

Post by Markus »

Hello,

just a short question: Does anyone know which Dumble amps Stevie Ray Vaughn played? I think one of his Dumble´s was a Steel String Singer 150 watt. Did SRV also used a Dumble Overdrive Special for a while?
Thank you for any information!

Yes, SRV used two 150w Steel String Singers. He nicknamed the silverface model "King Tone Consoul". It was as clean as could be all the way up to 10. The blackface model came later and supposedly had a slightly different voicing.

SRV did, in fact, use an Overdrive Special for a very brief period of time, but he didn't like the amp all that much. This amp can be seen on German TV from 1983.

Ya, it looks like he is. I believe he's also playing one at ACL '83.

But the amp he recorded Texas Flood with was Cristopher Cross' Dumbleland 300SL. There's some good info here. That link takes you to a page that has a picture of it...but the whole thread has some good info.

When I saw SRV in concert he was using two Fender Super Reverbs. This was about a year before his death.

Correction: From the thread I linked the latest post says it was not CC's Dumbleland 300SL that SRV used to record Texas Flood. I think it's safe to say most of us just don't know exactly what the SRV/Dumble amp history is but that thread has a lot of info.

Hotrodford says that he believes texas flood was actually recorded with the Dumbleland 150 that Jackson Browne owned, and not the orange suede 300SL that I thought, fwiw.
