Other guy hereharryk wrote:Colossal! Your description of that amp makes me really think that I will build one in near future. I have already built one Express and one Liverpool so I know somehow what to expect. I also made a couple of years ago a Firefly but I sold it away because I did not get right sounds out of it. I really appreciate Cliff`s and other guys work here which keeps us busy with new tube amp projects. Harry

Hi guys,
I've been following this thread - I'm very excited about this project.
Just one question - are the Hammond OT's people use good enough to let the total tonal quality shine through? The low power amps that I've tried, have all had a certain "flatness" to them, except for the 5W Laney Lionheart, which sounded huge. It also has a big OT for a 5W amp.
I see on the datasheets, that the Hammonds go down to about 100Hz - theoretically. Is this good enough? Are there other options?
Kind regards, Jake

The hammond OT sounds good to me. Beefing the OT may not make a big of a difference like you would normally get with SE. Actually the amp seem to have a huge soundstage quality to it that you get with bigger PA's. I have a low-watt firefly amp and to me the 4-4-0 is in a different league.

The 125c is fine as the lower e sting only goes down to 80hz or so. Cliff had some special Heyboer OTs made for these amps, that according to Cliff, can rattle the floor with the 6sn7. He might have some more left. www.chappellamps.comjakehop wrote:Hi guys,

Thanks to both Brian and Joey.
I'm gonna try my luck with this little guy. I've built an Express, but my B+ is around 100V too high, so while I am waiting for the right PT, this would be an awesome project!
Kind regards, Jake

sounds like a really cool sounding low wattage amp.

Enjoy the pics.
I'm gona try and records some clips of it tomorrow before it gets put on display for the auction.
This is a really great little amp, and it definitely captures that TW singing quality.

If you search around the thread, one guy did a pdf layout similar to a real wreck. Also, the pics of mine give a good layout of the components and board. Cliff did a layout but it is only included with a purchase of his 4-4-0 kit. It will be released eventuallydaz wrote:sounds like a really cool sounding low wattage amp.
