Fixed Bias VVR2 In Action

Post by Blindog »

I thought I would put up a clip of the "plexified" Traynor YBA-1 with Dana's VVR 2 board. Just a minute and half of noodling so forgive the clams.

On this clip I'm using a PRS Singlecut in the Bright channel, amp volume on 6. VVR is set slightly above 3/4 power reduction. The tubes are the original Mullard 12AX7's, with Sovtek EL34's. I'm using a closed back 2X12 cab with Vintage 30's. The clip sounds a a bit darker than real life. I'm not using the best mic for a guitar clip (EV ND265) but I think it turned out Ok.

This really is a such a helpful tool. I'll be able to use this amp anywhere now without any " Sounds good but you need to turn it down" or "Man, that 's a little hot!" 8)

Sounds good man! Are you reducing the plate volyage to the whole amp or just the o/p or....?

God bless Leo Fender for the '59 Bassman 8)

Thanks for the kind comments. This thing is truly a joy to play now that you can get that tone without your teeth rattelin'

Stew, I'm scaling the whole deal...just makes more sense to me. If you do a board in one of these, you will definitley need to install the caps and resistors to the inputs of V1 and V2. It keeps the DC off of your volume controls, and in my case tamed an oscillation. You wil also need an external heat sink. There are pics in this post: https://tubeamparchive.com/viewtopic.php?t=6663

I'm very happy with the end result. (can't tell, huh?)
