SWEET Guitar. I see it has the adjustable intonation on the bridge.

Re: NGD PRS McCarty
It came with it. I have the original bridge and studs too. I have it set up for 10.5, 13, 17, 30, 40, 50. GHS David Gilmour Red set. No way was the original bridge going to intonate with those.billyz wrote:SWEET Guitar. I see it has the adjustable intonation on the bridge.
Those strings really shake that thing! Suuuuuuuuuuustain!

"GHS Gilmour blue set" for strat is slightly lighter (longer scale length). What scale is the PRS?skyboltone wrote:Naw. Big strings mean big tone. Try it you'll like it.billyz wrote:HEAVY dude! you tuning down?

I hear you on the big strings big tone. I used to used a very heavy setup until carpal tunnel got the best of me. Now I am a lightweight. I have been using the Paul Reed gauge of Daddario, exl 120+ ,9.5-44 set. Actually your setup is not that much heavier. I think I was using 12-56.

Re: NGD PRS McCarty
12-56 is great on acoustic but I ain't man enough to try it on an electric. SRV strings. I think he used a 13 set at the start of a tour and was down to 10s by the end.billyz wrote:I hear you on the big strings big tone. At that time , a long time ago. I was using a 335 , shorter scale less tension. Then I discovered tuning down, even less tension. On my Strat I would use one gauge lighter. The PRS is interesting with the 25" scale. sounds different feels different.
I have played more than a few custom built guitars and the McCarty is one of the best. The only thing better for me is an old late 50'ws early 60's, 335, Les Paul, or Stratocaster.
Another very cool guitar is a Duesenberg.

It's hard to argue with that Billy. The "golden era" etc.billyz wrote: The only thing better for me is an old late 50'ws early 60's, 335, Les Paul, or Stratocaster.

I've seen the Duesenberg ads. They certainly have it covered in the different look department. Never have heard or played one. On the subject of different looks and sounds, I was tempted to track down one of the BillyF endorsed Gretsch "BillyBo" guitars. I can't recall where I read it but apparently ZZ top was in the studio and BG and the producer prowled around in the vault and found an old guitar that Gretsch built for Bo Diddley. Gibbons used it in the session and that's what started the ball rolling at Fender/Gretsch to make the new model.
I'm in a big rush right now to finish an amp for a guy so I really haven't had the chance to really open up with the McCarty. It's a dream guitar for me. I doubt it will disappoint.

I wondered what that was. I was puzzled about what all the PRS hullaballoo was about until I played one. The McCarty just feels "right" ya know? Best neck I've ever played. Being an Alaskan, the second assertion suits me fine too!drhulsey wrote:I never met a PRS guitar that I didn't likeskyboltone wrote: ...It's a dream guitar for me. Or, at least, until Sarah Palin offers to trade me something for it

Re: NGD PRS McCarty
I use 13's myself (13-17-19-36-46-56) on my Strat, tuned down a half step. I know, I know. SRV alert! But seriously those feel the best to me and give me more tone and signal, IMO.
Re: NGD PRS McCarty
I use 11s at standard pitch on all my electrics. Smaller strings - I just have a hard time feelin' it. I need the string to fight me just a little bit. I also like the meatier "body" to the tone with the larger strings. I can still to 1-2 whole tone bends on most strings.
